Spile & Spigot: a Cask Beer Fest comes to SteepleJack Brewing

A handful of northwest breweries seem to be single-handedly resuscitating the European and American pre-prohibition style cask beers served by hand pumps or gravity pours. In Seattle Machine House Brewery has lead the way, in Oregon we had Brewers Union 180 (RIP). But more recently new and old breweries are embracing the method of conditioning and serving beer in its most natural state, unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and alive, just as the brewers intended it.

Away Days and SteepleJack Brewing are two of the premiere Portland breweries putting considerable effort into cask beer. Both will be pouring at the Spile & Spigot inaugural cask beer fest next Saturday, June 25th. Joining them are other longtime cask beer aficionados such as Double Mountain Brewing, Gigantic Brewing, Upright Brewing and Ecliptic Brewing.

SteepleJack Brewing will host Spile & Spigot in their 100+ year old church set brewpub

There are some you might not expect, pFriem Family Brewers and Rosenstadt Brewery are here to prove that you can make a delightful and lively lager or German-style work from a gravity poured firkin. Wayfinder and Foreland are in too, both newcomers to cask beer with a lot of love for the traditions.

From Washington, Olympia’s fantastic Headless Mumby Brewing is an all-lager brewery, who also happens to put many of them into cask. They are sending beer down for the fest and it will be the first time their beers are in Oregon.

Spile & Spigot will feature 25+ beers from gravity poured, lightly carbonated firkins, to hand drawn, pump poured real ales will showcase a broad variety of American and European-styles of ales and lagers from some of the best breweries who still specialize in this type of serving technique.

Tickets to this limited time event include a custom Spile & Spigot branded 10oz Nonic glass and 4 drink tickets, each get you a 5oz pour of beer or 2 tickets for a full pour. Additional drink tickets will be on sale for $2 each.
