Occidental Brewing breaks from German-style traditions with new Further Beer brand

We haven’t heard much from Occidental Brewing Co. since COVID-19, seems the the N. Portland St. Johns neighborhood brewery has been dreaming up a new brand of beers different than their true to German style staples like Kolsch, Doppelbock, Pilsner and Hefeweizen. Things are changing, Occidental’s new Further Beer brand will give the brewers freedom to experiment with new ingredients and brewing techniques for a winder variety of beer styles that are not German.

The first offering from Further Beer will be a 6.0% ABV West Coast IPA using Strata and Azacca hops. The Further IPA brings a crisp and refreshing taste, balanced biterness, aroma of melon and citrus, with a release date set for late April.

"We are thrilled to introduce Further Beer to our customers," said owner Ben Engler. "Our brewers have been working hard to create new and excitng beers, and we can't wait to share them with the world."

Limited quantities of Further Beer will be available in 16oz cans and on draft at select bars, restaurants, and retailers throughout Oregon, Western Washington, California, Idaho, and Nevada, with plans for additional styles in the future.
