Portland Beer and Cheese Fest proves what beverage pairs best with cheese

Portland Beer and Cheese Festival takes place this Sunday, June 23rd at the new Bauman’s on Oak (former Ecliptic Moon Room, and Base Camp Brewing.)

The inaugural Portland Beer and Cheese Festival was held at the original The Commons Brewery in 2012, it has moved around over the years taking place once in the shell that would become Wayfinder Beer before it opened, one year at Burnside Brewing Co., then to The Bindery Annex and Culmination Brewing for a few years, last year at Living Haus Beer. This Sunday it will be held at the new Bauman’s Cidery location in Portland - Bauman’s on Oak, 930 SE Oak Street Portland, OR 97214.

The concept of the Portland Beer and Cheese Fest has been the same from the start, singular artisan cheeses paired with individual beers each from a different brewery. There are and have always been 10 beer and cheese pairings, very carefully selected via a trial and error tasting process by master cheesemonger Steve Jones, the former owner of respected establishments like Cheese Bar, Chizu, and the Cheese Annex that was inside of The Commons on SE Belmont. Steve has appeared in local and national media outlets, including Portland’s Live Wire radio show and National Public Radio’s The Splendid Table. And he is world-champion cheesemonger, Steve Jones even wrote the book on beer and cheese pairings, and is an internationally known advocate for cheese and beer as the best beverage to pair with it.

Steve says this Sunday will be his last Portland Beer and Cheese Fest as one of the organizers along with Portland Beer Week. To send Steve off into cheesy retirement from festival duty, there will be a smaller rendition of the event similar to the original festival with a chance to hangout with Jones and enjoy 10 magical pairings. Alongside the beers, there will be cider for the first time in the events history, and Salt & Straw will be there scooping a manchego cheese beer ice cream.

To attend this magical event, one must get a ticket which covers the cost of all 10 pairings and free ice cream. These are this year’s pairings:
