Clonakilty releases Pelican Mother of All Storms Cask Finish Irish Whiskey

A new Irish Whiskey from Clonakilty Distillery has been aged in oak barrels that previously held Pelican Brewing’s acclaimed Mother of All Storms English-style Barleywine. Clonakilty Mother of All Storms Cask Finish Irish Whiskey will be available exclusively in Oregon and at the Clonakilty tasting room in Ireland. Pelican Brewing will be pouring the whiskey and creating a special cocktail using it at their brewpubs, but to purchase a bottle you need to go to an Oregon liquor store.

Just 1,500 bottles of Clonakilty Mother of All Storms Cask Finish Irish Whiskey will be released on Monday, October 5th via the Oregon Liquor Control Center retailing at $59.95 ABV: 46% ABV (92 proof).

Mother of All Storms beer has a legendary following among discerning enthusiasts, so Clonakilty Distillery decided to take things one step further by imbuing their premium Irish whiskey with the flavours of Pelican’s multi award-winning barrel-aged beer.

A select number of these casks were handpicked to embark on a pilgrimage from the shores of Oregon to the rugged Atlantic coastline of Clonakilty.

Upon arrival from their trans-Atlantic voyage, these casks were filled with the finest of Irish whiskeys at Clonakilty’s cliff-side ocean warehouse. Through interacting with the surrounding maritime environment, the spirit developed a unique and distinct coastal influence as well as undertaking beautiful notes of crushed almonds, biscuit, toffee and whispers of vanilla from its new found vessel

“We chose to share a few select barrels from our Mother of All Storms program because the big malty richness of this barrel aged barley wine compliments and enhances the smooth rounded flavours of Clonakilty Whiskey,” says Darron Welch Brew master of Pelican Brewing. “Brewers are typically whiskey fans and we feel honoured to be a part of the collaboration and look forward to growing this intercontinental relationship.”

According to Sean Scully, Business Development Manager of Clonakilty Distillery, “we are ecstatic to partner with Pelican Brewing, an independent brewery with ideals very much in line with our own. Both of us strongly believe in giving back to the ocean that supports us, Pelican Brewing through their support of sustainability efforts and Clonakilty through Whale and Dolphin Conservation.”

“The meticulous attention to detail and care that Pelican put into crafting their unrivalled beer offerings is outstanding to see. Building a partnership with a brewery that possesses their integrity and reputation is a privilege for us at Clonakilty and we look forward to further exciting projects in the near future.”

About Clonakilty Distillery Opened in 2018, Clonakilty Distillery has a $10 million facility in the heart of West Cork, Ireland. The Scully family, the founders of Clonakilty Distillery, have farmed this windswept coastal land for 9 successive generations. With the best resources that nature has to offer, prime land, pristine water and salt sea air, they had the perfect ingredients for a maritime distillery. It is here that they distil their award- winning new make whiskey and store their casks, safely tucked away in their warehouse on a windswept cliff edge next to the Atlantic Ocean.

About Pelican Brewing Company Pelican was born at the beach in Pacific City in 1996. Here, in front of a rundown old building at the water’s edge, stood three enthusiastic young folks whose thirst for great beer overshadowed their understanding of what it would take to build a brewery. They did it anyway. And now twenty years later, older, and wiser, Pelican Brewing Company is a craft beer industry leader with fans throughout the Northwest and around the world.
