Breakside Brewery opens first of three new locations on SE 82nd Ave.

The first of three planned new Breakside Brewery locations is now officially open on the craft beer desolate 82nd Ave. in outer southeast Portland. The Breaksider is the brewery’s refurbished winnebago originally intended for special events and pop-ups but now has a semi permanent home at Collective Oregon Eateries (Core) just two blocks south of Powell Blvd.

The CORE is a new food cart pod and future indoor food hall and marketplace which plans to host a wider array of vendors and even a farmers market in the future. The Core building sticks out like a beacon compared to the business parks, car lots and dive bars that surround the strip. It’s also easy to miss this as a food hub, because the trucks and patio are off street as to provide some relief from the heavily trafficked 82nd. Behind a modern multi level facade that will become the indoor food hall is a wide selection of local food trucks and a beer garden area to chill with a pint of brew and a big lunch or dinner.

On recent visits we enjoyed an absolutely massive gyro from Shawarma Express that could easily feed two, and an almost equally gigantic spicy fried chicken sandwich from the NYC inspired Summit Shack. There are also heavy hitters like Chicken & Guns and more off beat options like Mitate's vegan sushi. The only downside of this new area destination that comes with its own on-site parking lot and plenty of seating is that the trucks are still finding their groove as far as hours and days but Thursday through the weekend is a great time to find most of them open.

“The Breaksider" as it’s known, is a large 1972 winnebago that is pours 5-7 Breakside drafts, and 1 cider, and has cans and 4-packs to-go. Draft beer is served in plastic cups but you can crack a 16oz can of the latest seasonal (Salted Caramel Stout, Strata Strata Strata Pale, Noble Pilsner, Sunset Pilsner) for the same price as a pint on tap, and at $5 it’s a solid deal compared to many of the trendier areas in town.

The Breaksider at the CORE is soft opened Thursday - Sunday from Noon - 8pm, but as the word gets out about this food cart pod and restrictions ease it’s easy to see this becoming a hot spot and expanding hours. Coming later this year is Breakside Lake Oswego and Breakside Beer Garden in Beaverton.
