Portland’s Old Town Brewing is tapping into retro nostalgia with a brand-new craft hard seltzer brand called Upper Left Seltzer Co. Breweries launching hard seltzer brands is nothing new, but the small OT Brewing brand will put their own twist on it by modeling the seltzers on retro confections and local pop-stores of the 70’s like cotton candy and key lime pie but with pure ingredients and light, crisp flavors.

The introductory flavors Key Lime Pie and Cotton Candy are designed to emulate biting into your favorite salt-water taffy or browsing the isles of an old school candy shop, but for adults. Don’t let the sugar-coated flavors scare you off, though, the resulting beverage finishes clean on the palette with the perfect hint of your favorite treats.

As the hard seltzer market continues to grow, now an estimated $4.5 billion market with predicted growth of more than 16% from 2020 to 2027, more craft beer brands are looking for ways to expand their offerings and enter the space. For Upper Left Seltzer Co., developing a brand that would be completely new from the growing list of seltzers in the Pacific Northwest was critical.

“When we first started conceptualizing a new craft seltzer brand, we knew we wanted to create something that of course, tasted incredible, but also evoked a feeling of nostalgia and fun. There are tons of fruit and herbaceous flavored seltzers on the market, so went with something completely different,” said founder and owner of Upper Left Seltzer Co. “The result of years of development and testing is UpperLeft Seltzer Co., adorned with retro-inspired branding and filled with confectionary inspired flavors, we know we’ve created something special, and we can’t wait for everyone to try it.”

While the flavors are inspired by sweets, each drink is calorie, carb, and sugar friendly with only 99 calories, 1g carb, 0g sugar per can. The product is also gluten-free and made with natural flavors.  Available beginning Sept. 16, 2021, at Zupan’s across Portland and at Old Town Brewing and Baby Doll Pizza.
