Ruse Brewing 4th Anniversary Celebration

Fan favorite Ruse Brewing turns 4 years old this Saturday, and is celebrating the anniversary with live music, local vendors, special collectible glassware, the return of Holy Trinity BBQ, and of course some special new beer releases. The inner southeast Portland brewery has had a big year so far, not only are things getting back to normal but Ruse opened their second location the Crust Collective on the Vancouver waterfront, expanded their production output, and hired new staff and brewers.

“We are super fortunate to be able to celebrate our 4 year anniversary during such a beautiful time of year,” says Ruse Brewing’s co-founder Devin Benware.

“Although we just opened our pizza spot “Crust Collective” this little SE taproom will always be special to us. As this place gets more years under its belt we hope it can inspire future breweries in the same way that we were inspired by unique places like Upright, Breakside, Gigantic and all our other friends that were around before us. These places make Portland special and we are proud to be a creative/fun/safe space for our amazing regulars or somebody who is checking Ruse out for the first time.”

Holy Trinity BBQ and Sato Sharpening

The 4 year anniversary features the return of local Texas-style barbecue darlings Holy Trinity BBQ. Known for selling out quickly, this time Holy Trinity is loaded for bear and plans to keep going for most of the day starting at 1pm and attempting to last until 7pm! Don’t sleep on their burger, but if they have some ribs and brisket you can’t pass on that either. Actually, just go and get one of everything.

Sato Sharpening will also be on hand to keep those blades clean and pointy. Bring in your knives, swords, daggers, toothpicks, etc. whatever you need to be razor sharp!

Fields of Time - West Coast Oatmeal Double IPA collaboration with Holy Mountain

Ruse had been talking with Seattle, WA’s Holy Mountain Brewing for some years about making a collaboration, but it just hadn’t coalesced until now.

“Cody Sewell, our newest member to the Ruse brew team came from Holy Mountain after working there for 5yrs,” says Ruse co-owner Shaun Kalis. “It seemed like an appropriate time to reach out to Colin and the team and discuss a Collab now that we are connected through our brew teams.”

Fields of Time is an unfined West Coast Oatmeal Double IPA brewed with a slightly untraditional base. A unique blend of 2 Row, Pilsner Malt and Rolled Oats lay down an ultra pale appearance with an uber soft, yet dry mouthfeel. The brewers dumped a huge blast of hot side Simcoe and Mosaic hops. After that, they got crazy with a dry-hop blend of Strata mingled with even more Simcoe and Mosaic. The end result is mind bending flavors of mandarin infused pound cake with sweet pine needle whipped cream and sticky strawberry sauce on top. Fields of Time is 8.2% ABV and can be found on draft and in 16oz cans, on sale for $20 a 4-pack.

Introspector Pale Ale aka “Translator Light”

Another unique beer dropping for the anniversary is a Pale Ale version of Ruse’s mainstay Translator IPA, reimagined as “Introspector,” aka Translator Light. This beer is a smaller version of Ruse’s original 2015 recipe with the same base malts as Translator of premium Pale Malt, a dash of Munich Malt, Carafoam specialty malt, and a sprinkle of Crystal malt. Hopped with Citra and Simcoe, Introspector is fruity and slightly savory and eminently drinkable at 5.3% ABV. Introspector will be on draft and in 16oz cans with 4-packs priced to go at $16.

Smoothie Sours on draft and Slushy

Ruse Brewing is not afraid to pack some fruit puree into a light sour, but always with a balanced touch to the intensity of the emerging smoothie beer category. For their anniversary they have blended up two new smoothie flavors on-draft or available even icier and creamier from the slushy machine.

  • Blackberry, Raspberry, Blueberry Smoothie Sour

  • Banana, Pineapple Smoothie Sour

Anniversary glasses will be on sale for $10 each and they may sell-out.
