Classic cherry edition of Deschutes’ The Dissident returns
When Deschutes Brewery introduced barrel-aged Flanders style brown ale The Dissident in 2008 it was a big deal. This was coming during a time when barrel-aged beers were not common, and the Dissident was their first wild and funky “sour” beer coming from barrels and following up the runaway success of The Abyss launch in 2006. The Dissident has been a staple of the Reserve Series ever since, but it has been five years since it was released in it’s original iteration with traditional Belgian Montmorency cherries.
Deschutes has been experimenting with their classics for the past five years (peanut butter Obsidian Stout, black forest The Abyss) and The Dissident more so than others. We have seen Dissident’s with marionberry, raspberry, and peach, but not an original recipe version. On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the original release of The Dissident, the beer is returning to it’s roots with cherries.
The Dissident is a distinctive barrel-aged Belgian-style sour brown ale brewed with fresh Oregon cherries, fermented with wild yeast and matured in oak. This special ale reveals unmatched complexity of flavor with a pleasant, bright acidity. It is unlike anything else Deschutes Brewery brews, worthy of the name, The Dissident. 9.6% ABV | 15 IBUs
For a truly unique tasting experience, try the last classic release of The Dissident with cherries from 2019 side-by-side with this year’s vintage. The Dissident is available everywhere Deschutes beer is sold in 500ml bottles and draft.
