Breakside Releases Bourbon Barrel-Aged Aztec 2017 with Vertical Flights
Breakside Brewery is releasing the seasonal favorite Bourbon Barrel-Aged Aztec Ale 2017 today,
Friday, December 22nd. To celebrate, there will be vertical tastings at both pub locations: Slabtown will pour 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 and the Dekum pub will pour 2015, 2016, and 2017. Vintage bottles are available but are very limited; luckily the 2017 batch is tasting mighty fine, from what the Breakside folks say:
This batch has been aging for 12 months in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels and rested on 120 lbs (2 pounds per barrel!) of Woodblock Cocoa nibs.BB Aztec is our longest-standing barrel-aged beer, brewed since a first release in 2011 at the Dekum pub. One fun change that we made to the beer this year is that we've switched up the types of chilies used in the base beer: we've replaced the serrano chilies with a mix of ancho and guajillo chilies, which have a fruitier and earthier character and less of a 'green, vegetal' note. The habaneros remain in the recipe, as always.- Ben Edmunds
On sale beginning
Friday at Breakside pub locations. $13 for 2017 and $15 for older vintages.
Look out for 2017 on the shelves of bottle shops and grocers while supplies last.
