Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Opening in Former Amnesia Brewing Space

Logsdon Farmhouse Ales, tired of the challenges of brewing on a farm that's hard to reach and control especially in Oregon's cold weather months has announced they will take over the former Amnesia Brewing space in Washougal, WA. Logsdon was established in 2011 in the outskirts of Hood River on a private farm and has went through restructuring and a sale that fell through but lead to head brewer Charles Porter leaving in 2015 to open Little Beast Brewing last year. Meanwhile Amnesia Brewing which was originally founded in Portland before moving to Washougal, finally announced they were closing in late 2017. Under head brewer Shilpi Halemane, Logsdon began winning awards again and has been an inspiring model of farmhouse brewing and pioneer of spontaneous brewing and mastering local terroir as a character in their beers. At the recent 2018 Oregon Beer Awards, Logsdon Farmhouse Ales won Small Oregon Brewery of the Year as well as two silvers and one gold for their beers. The new lease Logsdon Farmhouse Ales has signed for the existing brewery space in downtown Washougal comes with news of more restructuring and founder Dave Logsdon's retirement. The second facility will allow for additional production capacity, as well as a taproom and restaurant to showcase Logsdon’s beers. In the taproom, Logsdon will be partnering with Alex’s Smokehouse for restaurant operations. Alex has been serving delicious barbeque in downtown Washougal for several years. The Brewery will continue brewing specialty beers and spontaneously fermented ales on David Logsdon’s farm estate in Hood River, Oregon, sourcing ingredients from purveyors throughout the Pacific Northwest.More from a press announcement:The brewery was founded by Brewmaster David Logsdon, creator of award-winning beers Seizoen, Seizoen Bretta, Peche ‘n Brett, Cerasus, and Oak Aged Bretta, and Head Brewer Charles Porter.Shortly after it’s founding, David’s wife Judith, long-time friend Seaberg Einarsson, cousin John Plutshack and John’s wife Jodie Ayura became partners in Logsdon Farmhouse Ales. All were actively involved in the growth and daily activities of the company. Porter has since left Logsdon to seek his own new brewing adventures in Beaverton and Portland, Oregon. In seven years, Logsdon’s beers have become widely acclaimed, garnering medals at the Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup for its Belgian-inspired beers. Last month, at the Oregon Beer Awards, the brewery earned a Gold and two Silver medals as well as Small Brewery of the Year for their outstanding beers.Following David Logsdon’s announcement of his retirement from full-time day-to-day operations, John Plutshack and his wife Jodie Ayura managed brewery operations and this year will have purchased the majority stake in the brewery along with John's parents, John Sr. and his mother Barb.David Logsdon will stay on as a minority shareholder and retire as Brewmaster: "It is nice to see that the brewery will remain in the family and continue the tradition of brewing award winning beers". David is a pioneer of the beer industry, with 35 years experience from co-founding Wyeast Laboratories, brewing at Full Sail Brewing Company, consulting at countless breweries, and judging beer competitions worldwide.David’s wife Judith and Seaberg Einarsson, both partners in the company and actively involved in the growth and creation of the brewery, will exit the company this year and wish John, Jodie and family all continued success moving forward.Rounding out Logsdon’s team are Head Brewer Shilpi Halemane and Assistant Brewer Mark Pearson.
