Von Ebert releases German Lebkuchen cookie-inspired Oma's Dessert Lager

Lebkuchen cookies

Von Ebert Brewing's latest beer - Oma’s Dessert Lager - merges the current pastry stout trend with the return in popularity of lagers. Modeled after German Lebkuchen cookies, Oma's Dessert Lager will debut at the 2019 Holiday Ale Festival that starts today and runs December 4-8.

The German word oma translates to grandmother in English and the Lebkuchen cookie was traditionally made by a family's grandmother. Von Ebert’s 5.0% ABV sweet dark lager Oma's Dessert Lager is brewed with common spices used in the German Lebkuchen cookies.

“My Oma would make Lebkuchen every year at this time, using a combination of cinnamon, ginger, allspice, and clove,” said Tom S. Cook, owner of Von Ebert Brewing. “Her favorite time of year was the holidays, so we brewed Oma’s Dessert Lager for the Holiday Ale Festival in honor of her.”

Oma’s Dessert Lager will be available from December 4-8 at the Holiday Ale Festival at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland. Following the festival, it will be available at both Von Ebert Glendoveer and Von Ebert Pearl.
