Mutantis Brewery & Mikiko’s Donuts release Mochi Donut Sesame Porter

Mutantis Brewery and Mikiko’s Mochi Donuts collaborate on Mochi Donut Sesame Porter

Portland’s newish Mutatis Brewery & Bottle Shop has collaborated with Mikiko’s Mochi Donuts on a a sesame donut Porter. Both Mutantis and Mikiko’s specialize in gluten-free products, the new collaboration is a natural partnering that taps into the culinary based dessert beer trend at an approachable level in a smooth chocolatey 5.6% abv Porter that is actually made with Mochi Donuts and black sesame paste. The Mochi Donut Sesame Porter base beer is made primarily with malted rice and malted millet and will be released this Friday, November 5th. Details below.

“We’re huge fans of Mikiko’s donuts here,” says Mutantis owner and brewer Jason Yerger.  “We’ve been wanting to do a pastry beer for a long time, and their donuts seemed like the  perfect ingredient. After all, mochi is made from sticky rice, and we use malted sticky rice in  most of our beers.” As to the style of the base beer, Yerger says, “we went with an English style brown porter, something not too roasty or heavily-flavored, because we wanted to leave  some room for the donut and sesame flavors to shine through.”

"Beer and donuts: no longer just for the gluten tolerant." says Mikiko co-owner Alex McGillivray.  "We are stoked to join forces in wheat-free wizardry to bring you this wintry collaborative  concoction brewed with black sesame and our mochi donuts. We had wanted to do a beer  collab for a while now and gluten-free is an integral part of our brand, so when Mutantis  reached out it was a natural fit." McGillivray adds, "We didn't even go back and forth on the  flavor or style, Jason's first suggestion was exactly what I had in mind myself. It's sesame  serendipity."

Mochi Donut Sesame Porter will be released on draught and in 750 mL crowlers on Friday,  November 5th, at Mutantis Brewery & Bottle Shop. There will be free black sesame mochi  donuts from Mikiko while supplies last (limit 1 per patron).
