Flood Valley Brewing opens on Oregon’s North Coast

the home of the new Flood Valley Brewing Warrenton Taphouse

Oregon’s north coast has yet another new craft beer option with the opening of Flood Valley Brewing in Warrenton. The brewery was founded in 2013 in Chehalis, Washington near Centralia, and is expanding to the Astoria, OR area with a ribbon cutting ceremony this Friday, November 5th 2021.

Chehalis and Warrenton have both historically been northwest timber community, the former built on a floodplain and the latter built on tidal flats. Warrenton is also the home to Chehalis Brewing founder Chris Rohr’s brother who wants to use his local business North Coast Machine manufacturers to create custom stainless steel towers for the new taproom which quietly soft opened in September.

Founder Chris Rohr is a former mechanic like his brother, but one who discovered his passion and skill for brewing many years ago. Flood Brewing originally operated as a homebrew supply store with brewing classes and a few taps. After a few years the operation grew into a full fledged brewpub and restaurant serving Americana pub grub and became a popular spot in Washington’s Lewis County for live music, food, and drink.

Centrally located off of the Oregon Coast Highway 101 near the entrance of the Columbia River into Young’s Bay, the Flood Valley Warrenton Taphouse is just a few short minutes drive across the bay bridge from Astoria and conveniently located next to a Shilo Inn. The location was once the detached bar, restaurant and meeting room venue for the Shilo Inn & Suites and will continue to offer similar services to locals and travelers staying in the area.

The diner style Warrenton taphouse has retro red leather booths, and will serve a full liquor bar with specialty cocktails, fine whiskeys, and a back poker room to get some gaming in. Flood Valley’s beers brewed in Chehalis will pour from 12 taps in a custom draft system with 3 additional draft lines for Kombucha, CBD soda, and craft Root Beer, with an eclectic bottle list to compliment the lineup. A longer term goal is to install a small brewhouse on-site for special to Oregon beers. The Hangman’s IPA and Snakepit Stout are two housemade beers on draft, with a Bafaw Strong Winter Ale being tapped next.

The restaurant side of the pub serves up dishes like Bacon your Pardon, and Dirty Son of a Brisket are given to the towering creations which include house smoked brisket and pulled pork. House made salsa, fresh pretzel buns, and sauces made from scratch accompany generous portions of comfort classics like Nachos and Mac & Cheese that leave you satisfied and are sure to satisfy in this blue collar and tourist town.

Since a soft opening on September first, Flood Valley Warrenton Taphouse has been serving Saturday shoppers from Long Beach, locals from Knappa, and beer lovers from Astoria looking for a new watering hole. A Mug club will cater to thirsty beer lovers which allows them to order 24 ounces for a dollar more than the cost of a standard Pint. Guests of the Shilo Inn will soon be able to order room service - in the meantime, they call ahead or stop in to place an order.

The community is invited to join the Astoria-Warrenton Chamber of Commerce in a ribbon cutting on Friday, November 5th. Flood Valley plans to have some clam chowder made just in time for the occasion.
