Seattle, Washington’s famed Brouwer’s Café will celebrate their 16th anniversary on March 27th and 28th with new beers from The Ale Apothecary with North Fork Brewing and Ravenna Brewing. Before that, the beer bar and gastropub will hold their worldwide Orval Day celebration this Saturday, March 20th.

SIXTEENTH ANNIVERSARY

March 27-28, 2021

Last year Brouwer’s had planned to throw their biggest birthday party yet and pull out some of the rare past vintage anniversary beers, but that 15th anniversary throwdown didn’t happen for obvious reasons. So even though they missed what would have been their big 15th anniversary celebration, they are just as happy to make it through to their 16th.

“Making it through all the gray and uncertain days has been a labor of love, but thankfully, a light at the end of this is starting to brighten,” said Brouwer’s Cafe’s longtime manager Nathaniel Pellman in a statement.

“As is tradition though, we are going to have some kickass brews for you to celebrate with. First up will be Stationary Momentum IPA from Ravenna Brewing. Tommy, Audra, Alex, and the rest of the team over there are putting together a super refreshing, northwest style IPA that will pair well with the terrific weather we are having and hope to keep around for a while.

Our second beer will be coming from the wild beer minds of Paul and Eric, of The Ale Apothecary and The North Fork, respectively.  Both brewed the same base beer at each of their spots and then Eric drove down to Bend to blend his version with Paul’s. The finished product is a spontaneous ale brewed with Aronia berries and then aged on Chardonnay Lees. If you know either of these two breweries or brewers, you know it won’t be a beer to be missed.”

Brouwer’s will release a full taplist for the 2-day celebration as we get closer to the date and they have more beers actually in-house. It’s important to note that this party will be subdued and following all state guidelines, there will be vintage beers and other specials but dont expect a boisterous party.

“We feel incredible lucky to have had the support of the Seattle beer scene for sixteen years and we know with your support we’ll be here another sixteen. Cheers!” adds Pellman.

ORVAL DAY

Saturday, March 20th

As is tradition, importer Merchant Du Vin welcomes major supporters of the classic Orval brett beer out of Belgium to celebrate the annual Orval Day. The importance of Orval cannot be overstated, a brewers and beer connoisseur favorite, it was the first major widely available beer in the U.S. to utilize brettanomyces and remains a hallmark of farmhouse ales and wild yeast.

As the world slowly crawls out of the fog, the fine people at Merchant du Vin, the importers of Orval, wanted to get Orval Day back to rightful place in March. Brouwer’s Café, the fine people who love Orval, don’t want to miss an opportunity to get an Orval into the hands of the 25% masses.

Usually bars and bottleshops open up cases upon cases of Orval filling numerous glasses and often with vintage bottles. Brouwer’s usually fills a giant Orval glass and passes it around for people to try. That won’t happen this year but it’s still a great reason to come out and appreciate this beer for all it’s nuance and subtleties.

This year Merchant Du Vin will make a charitable donation to regional US hunger-relief organizations Houston Food Bank and Washington’s own Northwest Harvest. So go out and support a great beer, a great pub, and a great cause.
