If you find yourself near the Oregon coast west of Eugene you may have had the chance to visit 7 Devils Brewing in Coos Bay. Now 8 years in as a popular spot for locals, the brewery is expanding to the increasingly popular waterfront area that continues to see development and more visitors from out of town. Sometimes referred to as Oregon’s bay area, the greater Coos Bay and it’s directly bordering North Bend make up the most populous city on the state coast even though you may not hear about it as much.

Husband and wife duo Annie and Carmen Matthews separately dreamed up a brewpub in Coos Bay before they ever met, but together made it a reality in 2013. The 7 Devils Brewing Company specializes in a variety of classic American pub beer staples, and has been doing it well at their funk brewpub just about 4 blocks inland from the Marshfield Range Channel that runs down to Southport from the greater Coos Bay. The new taproom dubbed the 7 Devils Waterfront Alehouse is only 1 mile from the original location but will likely draw from a completely different clientele.

7 Devils Waterfront Alehouse is a brand newly constructed 2-story and 6,426 sq. ft. building at 1240 North Bayshore Drive. Part of a new waterfront concept called Coos Bay Village. What once was an empty strip of unused dead land between the Coast Guard Cutter Orcas Station and the Coos History Museum is becoming a modern restaurant and retail focused site with ample parking, open space, common areas and walking paths with over 72K of leasable space that will eventually have 12 different buildings with retailers like Face Rock Creamery and Starbucks already opening outlets. The development is also adjacent to Highway 101 / Oregon Coast Highway and the new Alehouse sits right beside the serene lapping waters of the bay running out the the Pacific Ocean.

The Alehouse is different than the 7 Devils Brewpub in every way except for the beer. Billed as a full-service public house, the emphasis is on fresh seafood and locally sourced and sustainable ingredients for which the Oregon coast is famous for. Rockfish, Halibut, Steelhead, Shrimp Ceviche and locally farmed Oysters are all on the menu with seasonal local raw ingredients rotating on and off. But you cant have a brewery alehouse without burgers, and these come in vegan, chicken, and fish, with local malt-fed beef burgers.

While the OG brewery and taproom location has more of a casual public house atmosphere the Waterfront Alehouse has a slightly elevated but still very family friendly ambiance. 7 Devils has used the opportunity to start fresh on a new space by salvaging and restoring elements from demolished or defunct local community fixtures; The bar and table tops are made out salvaged bowling alley lanes from the Coquille Bowling Center. The mezzanine hardwood flooring was once the gym floor at Marchfiled High School. An indoor fireplace is shrouded in chalk boards that were salvaged from the recently demolished Harding Learning Center.

The restaurant and full liquor and cocktail bar seats 140 people indoors and outside on a waterfront patio and mezzanine level that has even better views to the bay.

7 Devils Waterfront Alehouse is open 6-days a week, Tuesday - Sunday from 11am - 9pm at 1240 North Bayshore Drive, Coos Bay, OR.
