Summer is cooling into Fall and Oktoberfest season, Portland, OR’s own German brewery Rosenstadt is celebrating the tradition with their own Festbier in 16oz cans and on draft. Rosenstadt Brewery began operations in 2015 and has handled their own beer production while using other local companies brewhouses to produce their all German-style beer lineup. Until recently Rosenstadt had been brewing and packaging into 12oz bottles from the historic Portland Brewing in northwest Portland until their abrupt permanent closure in January.

This forced Rosenstadt Brewery to find a new brewing partner, and they found the perfect candidate in Hopworks Urban Brewery. Since the change in brewing locations their beer has went from 12oz bottles to 16oz cans of Helles and Kölsch coming out of the southeast Portland brewpub.

Rosenstadt Festbier is an amber lager brewed for the harvest season with the color of an autumn sunset. Festbier features a complex layers upon layers of malts for a deep flavor; Weyermann Pilsner, Barke Munich, Dark Munich, Caramunich, and Carafoam Malts that interplay with each other to give off notes of everything from  fresh bread and toast to almonds, dried fruit, and golden raisins. Noble hops German Magnum and Hallertauer Mittelfrüh, and Czech Saaz provide a floral, spicy counterpoint.

Rosenstadt Festbier has been one of the best reviewed beers in their lineup:

  • 91 Points, Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine, “A subtle beer, well integrated, light on oomph, nicely  delicate.”

  • 90 Points, Wine Spectator, “A strong, semisweet Oktoberfest lager, with a subtle hop presence and a  full body. At home alongside grilled sausages or lightly fried potatoes, it's a hearty lager that will fill  your stomach and soul.”

This year Rosenstadt Festbier will be served at the upcoming Mt. Angel Oktoberfestfor the first time in the Hopfengarten.
