Von Ebert and Trap Door Brewing release ‘Flamingo Croquet’ NE-style Oat Cream IPA

The newly minted GABF Gold medal winning IPA brewers at Portland, Oregon’s Von Ebert Brewing have collaborated with Vancouver, WA’s Trap Door Brewing on a New England-style Oat Cream IPA called Flamingo Croquet.

More from a press release:

The 6.8% ABV beer is not a typical New England-style hazy IPA. Von Ebert and Trap Door utilized some of the prevalent C-hops typically found in West Coast IPAs - Cascade, Centennial, and Columbus -  to create a heavy citrus aroma and flavor in the beer, along with a hint of pine. Citra complemented the West Coast C-hops to provide more of the citrus punch found in traditional New England IPAs. The beer was then dry hopped with Centennial, Citra, and Columbus.

Oats and a touch of lactose sugar provide Flamingo Croquet with a full, rich mouthfeel.

“I think it smells and tastes great,” commented Kevin Hanny, Head Brewer at Trap Door Brewing. “It has a nice body without being overly sweet from the lactose. Heavy citrus with a touch of pine; definitely an interesting combination of hops with the lactose mixed in. It’s kind of what I imagine a hop flavored candy would taste like.”

“I love Trap Door’s Glowed Up,” exclaimed Maddy McCarthy, Brewer at Von Ebert. “After seeing the results of that blind tasting, we had the idea to join forces and see what the makers of the two best IPAs in this tasting could produce. Plus, Kevin and I used to work together, so it was really awesome to reconnect over a brew kettle and do what we love to do! I’m really happy with how Flamingo Croquet turned out.”

Flamingo Croquet is available at Trap Door and both Von Ebert pub locations, Glendoveer and the Pearl, on draft and in 16oz. four-packs.
