Sasquatch Brewing Closing and shutting down New West Cider

Sasquatch Brewing is closing for good, the 11 year-old northwest Portland industrial district based brewery is shutting down both their production and their sister brand New West Cider. The brewery and brand appears to be for sale for $689K.

“All good things must end. We've made the decision to shut down the brewery and cidery. While we’ll certainly miss all our friends and customers, we think it’s the right time to move on to other ventures,” said Sasquatch Brewing owners Tom Sims and Alex Beard in a statement.

Sasquatch Brewing was founded in southwest Portland’s Hillsdale neighborhood with a tiny brewpub back in 2012. After five years they undertook a major expansion adding a new brewing facility in a 4000-square foot warehouse in industrial Northwest Portland. The brewhouse was a 15-barrel system, two 90-barrel cider fermenters, and a tasting room open to the public seven days a week just around the corner from Portland Brewing, which also shut down permanently in 2021. Back when they opened their NW facility in April 2017, owner Tom Sims said he felt at home in its gritty location in the heart of one of the last true industrial areas of Portland. Just inches from the back of the building a train runs by, and out front across the street, steel galvanizers are dipping metal into steaming vats of molten zinc.

Sasquatch started as a classic Northwest, hop-driven brewery, and over the years has broadened its offerings to include more sours and lagers and flagship beers like Woodboy IPA. Over the past few years Sasquatch Brewing’s hazy’s have come to dominate and their fresh hop versions of beers like Mouth Pillow IPA have won acclaim.

Sasquatch Brewing only reopened their NW location this past Spring 2022 and welcomed a new head brewer after that in June. The taproom at 2531 NW 30th Avenue replaced the old food menu with gourmet hot dogs from Must Love Dogs and went back to opening seven days a week from 11 am - 8 pm.

No word yet on a closing date for the brewpub (it may already be closed) in NW, but the original SW location will reportedly stay open for now.

“We have lots of fresh beer and cider, and we’re selling it at obscenely low prices for home delivery. Help us clear out the cooler while you stock up your fridge for the winter months. You’ll still get a few more emails as we can our last batches over the next few weeks, but the clock is ticking!” ends the Sasquatch Brewing announcement.
