MAYFLY PDX celebrates 3rd Anniversary with Boss Rambler Beer Club

North Portland taproom and bottle shop Mayfly is celebrating their 3rd anniversary this weekend, and it’s a good time to recognize them for their contributions to the beer community as well as their Kenton neighborhood. Helping them celebrate over 3 full days is Bend, Oregon’s Boss Rambler Beer Club who is making the trip up to release 4 new beers, including an exclusive and highly limited Mayfly collaboration.

Through numerous break-ins, shut downs, on and off street plazas, severe weather, and let’s not forget dry January, Mayfly has stayed the course. Mayfly and co-owner Ryan Born consistently delivered for both community events like a monthly trash pick-up gathering for the neighborhood and real talk about the issues of the day, to drag bingo and regular trivia nights, all the while bringing in fun and sometimes eccentric craft beer and cider events that were not otherwise being represented about town.

“The past two years have been tough, but we all know that,” says Mayfly co-founder Ryan Born. “There have been several instances where I thought we were gonna have to close the business, but we were able to lean on our resources and keep our heads above water.”

Mayfly was one of many businesses that have taken advantage of Portland’s safe streets program allowing some areas to be closed to traffic and promote open air and distanced seating during the pandemic. It might have saved the business.

“The street closure and plaza have been a life saver by allowing us to pour more draft beer rather than having to try to squeeze by relying on package sales,” adds Born. The recent news that the city would extend those special street parklet permits through this summer is welcome news and bodes well for their future.
