Great Notion Brewing opening SE Portland taproom and beer garden

Great Notion Brewing founders left to right: Andy Miller, Paul Reiter, James Dugan

Great Notion Brewing (GN), is planning to open their third location in Portland and their fourth in Oregon on southeast Division St. this month. Known for their NE-style Hazy IPA, pastry beers, and fruited sours, Great Notion has been on an expansion tear that has seen them open numerous new locations, expand distribution and partner with wholesalers for the first time in their history.

The new location will be Great Notion’s 1st taproom in the SE quadrant, set to open in phases starting this month. This is in addition to GN’s current Oregon taprooms that started with the original brewpub on NE Alberta, then a production facility and taproom in NW industrial, and then the Beaverton suburbs taproom just before COVID. They also open both Ballard and Georgetown neighborhood locations in Seattle, and a fullfillment center in Sacramento to service all Californians with beer direct to their front doors.

Ether Shoes Great Notion Brewing Division

Great Notion will open in the former Ether Shoes warehouse space on SE Division St.

GN’s new 2105 SE Division St.location will occupy the former Ether Shoes Building and parking lot sandwiched between Crisp Salads and Spielman Bagels in a vibrant, historic neighborhood full of dining and nightlife. Right across the street from Portland’s revered Scottie’s Pizza, Great Notion’s new taproom will accompany other upscale hotspots like Nuestra Cucina and be just steps from New Seasons Market. Outdoor seating will open up to Division Street with easy access to Tri-Met. Located on both a bike and city bus route, the taproom and the adjacent green space will be easily accessible from downtown for visitors and local residents alike.

The brewery leased 2,500 sq ft and will roll out the new Division St. location starting with an outdoor beer garden on June 24th. Days open will start with 4 days a week: Thursdays through Sundays (hours will vary). Then later in the Summer, GN hopes to transition to 7 days a week like the company’s other locations. The goal is to just get something up and running and iterate from there.

Picture a fun outdoorsy vibe with a food truck (TBA), picnic tables, pop-up tent, etc. GN will have draft pours and can pours on-site with packaged beer to-go. The goal is to allow children also - once an on-site food truck is finalized in the coming days. Construction will start later in the year on the interior.

“Our SE Division taproom will continue our mission to cultivate community and #KeepBeerFun,” COO Ryan O’Connor said. “Over the past several years, we have learned a lot about creating warm and inviting spaces. We’ve tackled a pretty wide range of properties, from repurposed industrial warehouses to brand new construction. This space is particularly exciting for us. There’s tons of potential here and we cannot wait to bring the Great Notion experience to SE Portland!”
