Laurelwood Brewing releasing 4 Fresh Hop beers and Portlandia Pils in cans

Portland, Oregon’s 21-year-old Laurelwood Brewing Co. has some new and refreshed beers to look out for. The brewery recently brought back their Portlandia Pils for the first time ever in cans, and has now shared plans for 4 different fresh hop beers released this season.

Portlandia Pilsner is a light, crisp, and refreshing German-style Pilsner with a modern twist. Its backbone of 100% Pilsen malt & traditional German Noble Hops is given a distinctive update with the use of Mandarina Bavaria hops, providing a bright, citrusy kick.

Head brewer, Paul Plett, says that “This is a fun beer to brew. Getting to honor traditional brewing recipes and ingredients is a welcome challenge for a lot of brewers, but working with combinations of old and new ingredients can be a great way to modernize a recipe and create some really great flavor profiles!”

Portlandia Pilsner is part of Laurelwood Brewing Co’s rotating line of 16oz cans and draft and will be available in Laurelwood’s pub and beyond starting this week. Prost!

Laurelwood has outlined the release of 4 Fresh Hop beers using 7 different Fresh Hops from the awesome team at Coleman Agriculture. These beers will be released exclusively on draft-only at Laurelwood Public House & Brewery over the course of the next few weeks, based on harvest timelines for the hops. A couple long‐time favorites ‐ Workhorse IPA & Free Range Red Ale ‐ will be on the list for the 2022 season, in addition to two new experimental styles.

Fresh Hop Workhorse IPA: On Tap NOW

The Workhorse IPA is an extremely well balanced and super flavorful flagship IPA brewed in the West Coast style. We are excited to have been able to coordinate three different hop varietals for this year's fresh hop version, namely Simcoe, Amarillo, and Citra. We added the Simcoe hops to the hop back on brew day, and then racked onto the Amarillo and Citra for secondary fermentation. Bursting with fresh hop aromas and flavors, this freshly hopped Workhorse IPA epitomizes what fresh hop season should taste like!

Fresh Hop Mosaic Pale Ale: On Tap 9/14

Some flaked barley and Munich malt add a velvety smoothness to this expression of freshly harvested Mosaic hops.

Fresh Hop Free Range Red Ale: On Tap 9/19

We took our Northwest twist on a classic amber ale then added 40 lbs of fresh Cascade to the hop‐back on brew day and then racked onto 150 lbs. of fresh Cascade for secondary fermentation. This beer enfolds the senses with earthy herbal citrusy aromas and flavors

Fresh Hop Idaho 7 Rye IPA: On Tap 10/4

Fresh Tahoma hops in the hop‐back on brew day and fresh Idaho 7 added in during secondary fermentation play wonderfully with the malted rye ‐ filling this IPA with bright citrus and green tropical fruit with an herbaceous mild spiciness.

You won’t want to miss any of these excellent beers. Quantities are limited of all styles. Only a select few kegs will be leaving the brewery, so get on down to the brewery at 5115 NE Sandy Blvd to taste these before they’re gone!
