First annual National Hazy IPA Day

Iconic west coast brewery Sierra Nevada Brewing is spearheading the inaugural National Hazy IPA Day celebrating a style born in the northeast New England area. The inaugural National Hazy IPA Day will be celebrated this year on Thursday, August 17, and every year after on the third Thursday in August says the Chico, California based brewery with an additional production facility in North Carolina. This special day is being introduced to toast the Hazy IPA beer style, also referred to as New England-style IPA or Juicy IPA. The uniquely American beer style, having exploded in popularity, is now ubiquitous on beer menus in every corner of the U.S. Last year, Hazy IPA was the second most-entered beer category at the Great American Beer Festival, behind American-style IPA.

The best way to observe National Hazy IPA Day on August 17 is by enjoying a Hazy IPA.

Naturally, Sierra Nevada would like you to choose their best seller ‘Hazy Little Thing’ a beer that has become as important to the brand as all-time classic Pale Ale. According to Nielsen research and analytics,Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing (MSRP $12.99/6-pack) is the number one-selling Hazy IPA in the country, and according to the brewery was the first nationally distributed Hazy IPA in the U.S. when it hit the market in 2018.

“Hazy IPA has rapidly become one of the most popular beer styles, and we felt it was time to set aside a day to celebrate its indelible mark on the craft beer world,” said Lesley Albright, Vice President of Marketing at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. “National Hazy IPA Day is a celebratory occasion inclusive of all Hazy IPA beer fans and all brewers of the beer style, with a special nod to the talented brewers who originated the style in New England.”

Since we already have IPA Day, International Beer Day, etc. etc. and this particular National Hazy IPA Day is associated with one brewery specifically, it will be interesting if they can get any buy in from other breweries and consumers. Sierra Nevada is encouraging you to share their hazy-hoppy adventures using the hashtag #HazyIPADay on social media. Show your favorite breweries and their Hazy IPAs some love, and connect with others who can’t get enough of the style!
