12 Portland breweries, 12 festive beers - the 4th annual 12 Beers of Gristmas Portland Holiday Ale Trail
Portland breweries have teamed-up once again this winter for the 4th annual 12 Beers of Gristmas holiday ale trail. Kicking off this Thanksgiving weekend, 12 different festive winter beers from 12 different Portland-area breweries will be featured in a seasonal passport for stamps and prizes from November 28th to the closing night party on Sunday December 14th 2025.
What is the “Grist” in 12 Beers of Gristmas refer to?? Grist is the term for malted barley that is ground (milled) in the brewhouse at the beginning of the brewing process. The term “grist” is also used to refer to the “grain bill” of a beer or the cereal part of the recipe. Therefore, a brewer may refer to a beer “brewed from a grist containing 90% pale malt and 10% crystal malt.”
Participating in Gristmas is FREE, you just need to pick up the passport at any of the 12 participating breweries and start hitting their taprooms. Follow the ale trail and get a stamp at each brewery by ordering their designated Gristmas beer (any size). Each stamp earned increases your odds of winning at the end celebration. Fully completed passports will be eligible for the Grand Gristmas Prize drawing.

Based on the number of completed passports last year - we decided y’all need a Bonus Round! Select Gristmas breweries will ALSO be hosting special GRISTMAS PARTIES - attend a party and get a BONUS STAMP. For every Gristmas Party attended, you’ll be entered into a special BONUS ROUND raffle for the ultimate Grand Gristmas Prize!
The kickoff party is Friday November 28th at Away Days Brewing, and the end celebration and prize giveaway will be held at Threshold Brewing (SE 79th and Stark St.) on Sunday, December 14th. Bring your partial or completed passports and be entered into drawings for incredible swag, gift cards and more from all 12 breweries! Multiple chances to win, and the more breweries you visit, the better your odds. We’ll see you out on the ale trail this holiday season – let the Gristmas beers begin!

How the Passport works
Pick up your free Portland Holiday Ale Trail passport at any of Portland’s 12 participating breweries between November 28th and December 14th. Follow the ale trail and get a stamp at each brewery by ordering their designated Gristmas beer (any size). Each stamp earned increases your odds of winning at the end celebration. Fully completed passports will be eligible for the Grand Gristmas Prize drawing.
Launch Party at Away Days Brewing on Friday, November 28th from 5-9pm. Passport pickup, special Gristmas beer Sticky Toffee Stout on tap, food specials and get a bonus stamp for attending your first Gristmas Party!
End Celebration and Gristmas Party Bring your partially or fully* completed passport to the end celebration at Threshold Brewing on Sunday, December 14th for the party from 4-8pm. Prizes include incredible swag, gift cards and more from all 12 breweries. Multiple chances to win, and the more stamps on your passport, the better your odds. Special Bonus Round raffle entry for each Gristmas Party attended!
