Assembly Brewing Pizza Annex opens in NE Portland
Assembly Brewing Co. officially opens their second location, one of our most anticipated of the year, on February 9th, 2024 in the northeast Portland Alberta Arts district. Known for their Detroit roots, and authentic Detroit-style pizza, Assembly is also the only black owned brewery in the state of Oregon, with founder George Johnson serving as both head pizza chef and brewmaster.
Assembly Brewing Pizza Annex at 2934 NE Alberta Street is in many ways more of a casual neighborhood pizza pub than the main brewery and original location on southeast Foster Blvd in Portland. The Assembly flagship brewpub in SE which celebrates the 5th anniversary this March, is infamously 21+ only, with gorgeous Diego Rivera inspired Detroit murals, a small stage, and more open and expansive layout. The Assembly Annex on Alberta is decidedly a bit different, keeping the beers and pizza intact but indulging in all-ages family friendly atmosphere, counter service, and far more to-go pies and a single-slice case for quick meals and a beers while hitting the neighborhood attractions like the Alberta Rose Theater right across the street.
Five pizza by-the-slice options (including one vegan), whole pies, breadsticks and salads are on the Assembly Annex menu along with a slice and a beer or fountain drink special. There is a couple bar seats here behind the taps, but most seating is smaller tables and a few larger groups along the back wall in a warm orange and red glow, with local art displays, and a lived in feel owing to years of restaurants like Bella Pizza, who occupied this well worn restaurant before Assembly. Patrons can dine inside or as weather permits, enjoy the sidewalk tables or the cozy back patio. Food delivery will be available soon as soon as the new staff and kitchen dial it all in.
Although Assembly Annex is family friendly, they still have a small liquor bar for cocktails, alongside eight taps of Assembly’s approachable craft beer. Local cider, wines, and sodas are all available.
