Oakshire Brewing announces new vision for upcoming Oakshire Commons location

Oakshire Commons was originally announced in the adaptive reuse space The Rivett Building (rendered here) but will now move just down the street in Springfield, Oregon.

The upcoming third location of Eugene, Oregon based Oakshire Brewing originally announced to open in Springfield last summer, is no longer going to be in theadaptive reuse space The Rivett Building. The “Oakshire Commons” is not moving far, just four doors down to 416 Main St. in the space formerly occupied by former beer, bikes, and sports pub The Pedaler.

“We’re as committed as ever to making this space a hub for connection and creativity,” said Oakshire Founder and CEO, Jeff Althouse. “Oakshire Commons will feel both fresh and familiar, blending the craftsmanship of our beers with the warmth of community in Downtown Springfield.”

Oakshire Brewing is still promising the same services as the previously planned Springield location, it will take the most popular features of the original Eugene location and the Oakshire Beer Hall in NE Portland. In addition to Oakshire’s award-winning beers that stretch from lagers and IPA’s to smoothie sours and classic German and Belgian styles, the Oakshire Commons will have pizza, and morning coffee hours, and plans to host many community events as a warm gathering space morning and night.

“Downtown Springfield is a special place for Oakshire and for me personally,” said Kiley Gwynn, Oakshire’s Director of Marketing and a proud Springfield resident. “We’re excited to be part of the vibrant and growing community here, and we look forward to contributing to the culture and connections that make Downtown Springfield so unique.”

Oakshire Commons will expand on their ‘Brewfare’ food concept originally launched at the Portland beer hall in May 2022. What started as regular deep dish squares has now transformed into classic Detroit-style pizza, with a full salad and side menu. What has changed is that the Springield pub will also welcome outside food, encouraging visitors to enjoy fare from the neighboring food carts and local favorites.

“I’ve been asked ‘why Detroit-style pizza?’” states Dan Russo, Oakshire’s former creative leader for both beer and pizza. “The Detroit-style pizza, like beer, uses both grain and fermentation. It gives us another avenue to develop as makers and expand that creative energy from the brewery into our taproom spaces.”

The new location will also host Oakshire Inspires events, continuing the brewery’s commitment to giving back to the community. To celebrate the opening, Oakshire Commons will host an extra special grand opening party benefitting the McKenzie Community and Land Trust and its efforts supporting the recovery from the Holiday Farm Fire, furthering Oakshire’s mission of supporting meaningful causes in the region.

Megan Gallbraith, Oakshire’s Taproom Director, emphasized the importance of community in shaping this new space: “We’re excited to bring the Oakshire experience to Springfield. Our taprooms are about more than just beer—they’re about creating welcoming spaces where people can gather, relax, and share memorable moments. It’s a chance to deepen our roots and be part of this incredible revitalization story.”

Oakshire Commons will open in early 2025. Stay tuned for updates as the team works to bring this exciting new chapter to life in the heart of Springfield.
