de Garde Brewing 11th Anniversary Invitational Celebration

de Garde Brewing celebrates 11th anniversary with an invitational festival featuring breweries from around the world

“We're doing this thing again.  Even though I said I'd never ever, and I mean never, again,” says de Garde Brewing co-owner/co-founder Trevor Rogers. Oregon’s premiere brewery of fruited sour Lambic-style beers is throwing down once again for a big anniversary invitational beer fest on Saturday, May 4th, in their hometown of Tillamook on the Oregon coast.

Last year for their blowout 10th anniversary celebration, de Garde threw a huge party under a covered tent overlooking the ocean in Garibaldi, Oregon. Beer nerds and Belgian and Lambic enthusiasts came from far and wide to book out every hotel room in a 50 mile radius to try rare de Garde beers and even rarer beers from their friends from across the world. The organization of the event, which included rangling parking, a huge entry line, food vendors, and kegs and bottles coming far and wide, was a massive undertaking for tiny team at de Garde. The party was a success by all accounts, but behind-the-scenes issues like food vendors canceling last minute without time to replace them, made for a stressful process that almost broke Rogers spirit, and an experience he swore would not be repeated.

“We did learn some lessons, I think, though we've been doing large events for almost 10 years now. Just not this large until the last couple years,” says Rogers. But there was a lot of satisfaction, glory, and kismet in last year’s milestone celebration, like the glorious sun breaks in the clouds they lucked out on. “We were fortunate to have the weather that we did that day. It would have all been lessened had the weather not been so lovely. I quite literally started weeping the morning of the last event while I was driving to the site and the sun broke through the clouds.”

With last year’s memorable fest in the rear view mirror, Rogers was able to work up the ambition and enthusiasm for an 11th anniversary festival in 2024 by playing to their strong suits. By moving the festival back to their downtown Tillamook taproom and closing the streets outside, they can control conditions, costs, and on-site assets to leverage them towards a more manageable festival this May.

“Our goal with this event hasn't been to take the most money from people that we can. We want to bring some joy, support our community and industry, and have some fun together. If we can best do that with a slightly smaller event, then that's what we'll do,” says Rogers. “Keeping some excitement alive. That all seems important, and worth doing. Maybe more so than ever.”

de Garde Brewing’s 11th anniversary event will be a celebration of place, as well as of beer. There will be live music performed by regional artists throughout the event, as well as food vendors representing the diverse culinary delights of their area.
