Living Häus Beer Co. debuts new food menu and patio seating ahead of 2-year anniversary

On the verge of celebrating their 2nd anniversary, southeast Portland, Oregon’s Living Häus Beer Company has some big changes and updates to their bright and airy taproom with a new food menu, patio seating, and upcoming beer release parties.

Having opened in July 2022 with the beginnings of a green and lively indoor garden, the Living Haus taproom is now overflowing with lovingly cared for hanging plants and crawling leafy vines that have thrived in the space. With the evolution of their plant life, Living Haus too is growing out of their limited food options that at launch were a small bite sized menu from their neighbors at Afuri, into a popular pop-up pizza kitchen canned Pan Con Queso, which has recently moved to a new location.

New Kitchen & Food Menu

Pan Con Queso launched out of the tiny Living Haus kitchen space in April 2023, their Mexican and Hawaiian heritage inspired pies were a quiet hit that eventually garnered acclaim and buzz in the foodie circles. But Pan Con Queso was always its own entity, and have now spread their wings and flew into a new tiny kitchen in the former Electric Pizza Company space next to Holy Ghost bar at 2730 SE Gladstone. This left Living Haus at a crossroads, find a new entrepreneur to run the kitchen, pull back to snacks only, or launch their own in house food program. They chose the latter, and have responded to customer feedback to continue the overall elevated eating experience at the lagerhaus.

“Pan Con Queso makes damn good pizza, so we didn’t consider that an option,” says Living Haus general manager Jessica Standley, who also developed and designed the new food program. “We discussed lots of styles, but settled on comfort food. These are things that we had when we were kids, or versions of them. Elevated, aesthetically, and scratch made in house, with hopes that the menu overall would have a wide reach, bringing some semblance of comfort to just about everyone.”

The new Living Haus food program is designed around complementary dishes that are thoughtfully curated as well as approachable. From small shareable plates to hearty mains, and with respect for every diet, the new food offerings promise locally sourced options fitting to share, nibble, or fill up on.

New Outdoor Patio Seating

In conjunction with the new food program, Living Häus is also unveiling bartop outdoor patio seating. To fit into the wraparound streetside seating, Living Haus owners Mat Sandoval and Conrad Andrus had to build three custom bar tops along southeast 7th avenue anchored to the building. The long chest height bar seating adjacent to the buildings windows lift up for service and lock in the down position when closed. Conrad welded the frame & all the supports for the bars. “We had a unique set of constraints that pushed us to fabricate our own pop up bar in order to fit the city's new code. It was fun and engaging to build something that fit our needs,”  says Andrus.

"We’ve been working hard at bringing these new ideas to life at our funky little brewery and we’re finally ready to share them with you. Come by and grab a bite and a beer, then take your pick of seating options, inside or outside. Huge thanks to our General Manager Jessica and our welder extraordinaire Conrad for making all this a reality,” adds Mat Sandoval, co-owner and creative director.
