Varietal Beer Co. re-enters Oregon distribution with Day One

Sunnyside, Washington’s award-winning Yakima Valley brewery Varietal Beer Co. is re-entering the Oregon beer wholesale market for the first time since their previous partner Alebriated Distribution shut down. Announcing a new partnership with Portland, Oregon’s specialty brands purveyor Day One Distribution, we can now look forward to cutting edge Varietal ales and lagers available to markets across the Willamette Valley, Western, Central, and Southern Oregon.

Varietal’s first shipment to Day One arrived last week and features two flagship beers which will begin heading to stores and taprooms this week, including kegs and cases of Sunflight Citrus Wheat and Sup Cuz IPA, a collaboration with Loza Farms. Shipments to Oregon are currently projected to be around once a month.

Founded in 2016 by head brewer and co-owner Chris Baum, Varietal Beer’s brewery and taproom opened in 2018 and resides in the hop-rich Yakima Valley, about 35 miles southeast of Yakima. Originally envisioned as a Wild & Sour Ale brewery, production quickly pivoted to the model that’s brought them acclaim as a brewer of hop-forward ales, light lagers, and everything in between.

Over their 8 years of existence, Varietal has set themselves apart in the Yakima Valley by not only the award-winning quality of their beer, but also the diversity of the styles they showcase. They’ve earned eight medals at the Washington Beer Awards, two medals at the Best of Craft Beer Awards, and two silver medals at the Great American Beer Festival. They’ve also created over 400 unique beers, comprising over 75 unique styles.

In 2021, Varietal signed on for Fort George Brewery’s annual 3-IPA collaboration, along with Moonraker Brewing, and annually hosts Goatfest, a German Bock festival featuring Pacific Northwest breweries, each spring. Their taproom regularly features 16 of their own creations on tap and hosts various food trucks on-site.
