John’s Marketplace closing one of three bottleshop/taphouse locations
Noted beer bottleshop and taphouse John’s Marketplace announced today that it will close its third location in Beaverton on December 31, 2025. The decision reflects a combination of location visibility challenges, rapid changes in the craft beer distribution landscape, and broader economic pressures facing independent retailers across the region.
“For more than 25 years, John’s Marketplace has adapted as the craft beverage world has evolved,” said Rob Petros, owner of John’s Marketplace. “The current moment has brought significant change - fewer breweries in distribution, rising operating costs, and shifts in consumer behavior. These pressures aren’t unique to us; they’re especially impacting small, independent businesses across Portland.”
Petros emphasized that the closure is limited to the Beaverton location only and does not reflect the health of the company’s other stores. Multnomah Village and Powell Stores Remain Fully Open and Unaffected.
“Our Multnomah Village and Powell locations remain strong, stable, and fully open,” he said. “These stores are the heart of John’s Marketplace, and we’re continuing to invest in our community, our partnerships, and projects like the Pourtlandia Project Series that celebrate Portland’s craft culture.”
The Beaverton space, built out in 2022, quickly became larger than the company needed as the craft beer environment shifted through 2023 and 2024. Limited visibility and traffic at the site further contributed to the decision.
John’s Marketplace is committed to its team and will work to absorb as many Beaverton employees as possible into roles at its remaining locations.

The company encourages customers to continue supporting independent bottle shops and specialty retailers throughout the region - including John’s Marketplace’s Multnomah Village and Powell stores - as these businesses play a vital role in sustaining Portland’s craft ecosystem.
