Threshold Brewing becomes first exclusively Polish Language brewery in the U.S.

Portland’s own Polish-owned Threshold Brewing is taking the logical next step in embracing their heritage by changing all written and spoken dialect in their taproom to Polish.

Threshold has a history of highlighting rare Polish hops in their beers, celebrating authentic Polish beer styles like Baltic Porter and Grodziskie, and serving the difficult to pronounce Polish street food Zapiekanka. The Threshold taproom has for years been offering both English and Polish wording for their beer and food offerings - despite the fact that this has created notable confusion for customers. This morning, to much fanfare at the brewery, Threshold has taken the final leap saying “żyje się tylko raz” and declaring Polish as their official taproom language and changing all of their menus and signage to be written in Polish.

“Our staff is aware of the transition and have all been offered Threshold’s Duolingo Family Plan as well as an immersive onsite language experience from brewer/founder Jarek,” reported co-owner Sara Szymanski. “They responded enthusiastically with what sounded like ‘Dziękuję’.”

Threshold has also adopted the metric system for draft pours with either a full 0.5 L or a smaller 0.3 L for less thirsty patrons. To make things easy, Threshold beertenders are familiar with the request “proszę o jedno piwo” for a full pour - or the more basic “poproszę pół pinty” for a half pour. Proper pronunciation is encouraged, as it will help speed up Threshold's beer line in these early days.

In a statement Threshold’s owners Sara and Jarek Szymanski wrote:
