Pelican Brewing sets opening date for 5th location in Rockaway Beach
Legacy brand Pelican Brewing is opening their fifth location on the Oregon Coast in the previously untapped town of Rockaway Beach. As one of the oldest breweries in the state with nearly early three decades of history and even more awards and influence, Pelican Brewing continues to establish themselves as the signature brewery of the coast. After months of delays to their original early August opening timeframe, Pelican Rockaway Beach will finally open their doors to the public on Friday, October 17, marking the start of daily operations, and a small community ribbon-cutting celebration is scheduled for the following Friday morning, October 24.
From their humble beginnings restoring a decrepit abandoned restaurant in a sleepy Pacific City in 1996, Pelican Brewing grew to a dominant force of acclaim and innovation under original and current Brewmaster Darron Welch. Since expanding into a sizeable production facility in Tillamook, Oregon in 2013, Pelican made the transition from location based brewpubs in Cannon Beach, Tillamook, and most recently Siletz Bay, to becoming a dominant grocery store brand with quality affordable six-packs and mixed cases of beers like Beak Breaker Double IPA and Kiwanda Ale.
Pelican Brewing’s fifth location is coming to Rockaway Beach, a small town of roughly 1,500 people located about a 2 hour drive from Portland between Tillamook and Manzanita. Whereas Pelican Brewing’s original location in Pacific City and their second location in Cannon Beach both have a Haystack Rock jutting out from the beach, Rockaway Beach has it’s own iconic Twin Rocks seen off the shores of their 7 miles of uninterrupted beach.
With a smaller footprint than Pelican’s larger brewpubs, this new Pelican location will feature a smaller select menu, family friendly service, and a dog-friendly patio. The inside space will be able to seat over 60 guests, and there will be available seating for an additional 30 guests on the outside patio. Pelican Brewing Rockaway Beach is set to be a welcoming, laid-back gathering place built around their award-winning beer and food with a similar familiar brand to their other locations.
“Rockaway Beach is such a special part of the Oregon Coast, and we couldn’t be more excited to become part of this community,” says Mary Jones, Pelican Brewing co-founder. “This space is a mini version of the Pelican experience, bringing together exceptional craft, meaningful community, and the beauty of life on the Oregon Coast.”
Pelican Brewing Tap Room in Rockaway Beach will be located at 165 S Miller Street Rockaway Beach, OR 97136 in the former Rockaway Roastery, a coffee shop and cafe that operated from 2022 to early 2024. The building is 1,950 sq. ft. constructed in 1990 but recently completely remodeled with features like a wraparound deck with ample outdoor seating, a refurbished kitchen, a small stage for acoustic music, a loft, and two bar areas. It is also conveniently located just one block from the beach on the towns main road full of shops and hotels and right off of Highway 101.
Pelican Brewing Rockaway Beach reflects the brewery’s continued investment in Oregon’s coastal towns, creating new local jobs and supporting year-round tourism. The team looks forward to welcoming neighbors, beachgoers, and travelers to share in Pelican’s passion for great beer and memorable coastal experiences. Whether stopping in after a stroll along the beach or meeting friends for a pint, Pelican Brewing RockawayBeach invites everyone to make themselves at home and celebrate the coast—one beer at a time.
Beginning October 17th, Pelican Brewing Rockaway beach will be open daily with winter hours Sunday through Thursdays from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm and Friday through Saturday from 11:00 am – 9:00 pm.
