F.H. Steinbart Homebrew Supply Closing for Real; Draft Service Survives, Building for Sale

The news that America’s oldest homebrew supply shop, F.H. Steinbart Co., was closing, spread like wildfire in December when media outlets that would likely never write about a homebrew shop decided it was news worthy in promoting the doom and gloom narrative. Yes, F.H. Steinbart closing is gloomy, and a bad sign for the struggling homebrewing community that has increasingly moved on to other hobbies or to purchasing online in a similar way to Amazon.com.

On December 9th, shortly after their initial closure announcement, The New School first reported that the 3-suite building that F.H.Steinbart occupies was put up for sale for $1,800,000 and that included $400k + of F.H.Steinbart inventory and the opportunity to save the business.

But then the outpouring of public support was so great, that F.H. Steinbart owners James Ameeti and Perfect Pour services called off the closure and restocked the shop. 3 months after the closure announcement, F.H. Steinbart last week announced they were in fact closing for real this time albeit under much better circumstances.

The F.H. Steinbart building is still on the market, now listed for $1,200,000.00, which is $60k less than the original asking price but minus the inclusion of the Steinbart inventory.

Ameeti, who acquired the F.H. Steinbart homebrew supply shop in 2024 from the DeBenedetti family, confirmed to the New School that they will continue normal retail operations through March 16. After that date they will begin blow-out sales until remaining inventory is gone.

The good news is that Steinbart’s invaluable draft services department that stocked pieces, supplies, and hardware for commercial draft systems as well as homebrewers systems, will transition to a new location. Ameeti owns and operates Perfect Pour, a company that specializes in commercial draft tech that had relocated into Steinbart after the purchase. Perfect Pour will survive the closure, and is moving into a new warehouse space at 3651 SE 21st Ave.

“As this transition happens, gas services (exchanges and fills), industry parts, draft chemicals, and equipment rentals will continue through Perfect Pour Services. The goal is to maintain continuity for breweries, bars, and draft system customers even as the retail side winds down,” says Ameeti.

Beginning March 16, draft department parts, chemicals, and gas services should be available through Perfect Pour at the new location. At the same time, F.H. Steinbart will begin ceasing sales of these items as inventory transitions out.

“We’re sad to see the homebrew ingredient side of F.H. Steinbart coming to a close after such a long history, but we’re grateful for the community support and excited to continue serving the draft and beverage industry through Perfect Pour Services,” says Ameeti.
