Breakside Brewery’s new West Coast IPA replaces Stay West IPA in 12oz cans

Breakside Brewery, one of Portland's largest and most award-winning breweries, is adding a new core beer to their year-round lineup. Breakside West Coast IPA joins the already extensive year-round India Pale Ale lineup of classic Breakside IPA, Wanderlust IPA, and Stay West IPA. The new Breakside West Coast IPA will replace the core Stay West IPA in 12oz cans which will be winding down production this Fall and Winter.

Breakside Stay West IPA is being discontinued

To celebrate the new Breakside West Coast IPA release, the beer will be tapped simultaneously across Portland on National IPA Day, August 6, at beloved bottle shops and neighborhood beer bars.

More from a press release:

Over the past 15 years, the West Coast IPA style has evolved away from aggressive bitterness and a loud presentation to be drier, lighter, more aroma-focused, and refined in bitterness. Breakside's new release not only embraces that shift, it downplays the dank side of hops and is built around the latest in hop science and technology that maximizes tropical and stonefruit hop aroma and flavor while keeping bitterness clean.

"The new IPAs today should be so easily delicious and gloriously fresh tasting that they wow you with the full potential of hops," said Ben Edmunds, Breakside's founding brewmaster and recipient of the Brewers Association's 2023 Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Brewing. "Our new Breakside West Coast IPA is not the IPA that got your parents into craft beer, but it might be the one that makes you reconsider everything you think about IPA."

The 6.5% ABV beer is built with three hops: Mosaic for sweet citrus and ripe tropical fruit, Oregon-grown Strata for soft fruity notes and a clean finish, and Krush for overripe stonefruit and fruit cocktail depth. The malt bill leans on crushed and flaked wheat in addition to Pilsner malt. This beer is also the first to debut Breakside's refreshed 12oz can design, which features Breakside prominently up front and rolls out across the core lineup this fall.

To mark the release, taphouses across Portland Metro will be tapping Breakside West Coast IPA simultaneously on National IPA Day, August 6th. Locations include: Roscoe's, Belmont Station, Beer Mongers, Saraveza, John's Marketplace Powell & Multnomah, Brooklyn Carreta, Hawthorne Asylum, Proper Pint Woodstock, Chill N Fill, three Prime Taphouse locations, NW Growlers, J West Bottle Shop, Kay's Bar, Taps on Scholls, Arch Bridge, Beer Store Milwaukie, Beer O'Clock, Arlington Taphouse, The Growler Run, Rose & Thistle Public House, Valley Public House, Noble Hop Hillsboro, The Growler Garage Forest Grove, and more.

Guests at all eight Breakside taproom locations can sample the new beer, and they can receive a complimentary can with any $20 purchase from the cooler.
