Single Hill Brewing Retires Lateral A, Introduces Greenway Pale Ale to Core Lineup
Single Hill Brewing adds west coast-style pale ale to core lineup, retiring Lateral A
“It's a month and a half until Fresh Hop Season, so what better time to announce a new hop-forward core beer!” says Single Hill Brewing’s director of sales and marketing Andrew Pytel sarcastically. “Oh well, that's how the timing shook out. Single Hill is retiring Lateral A as a core beer after about six years on the lineup, to make room for Greenway, our new year-round pale ale.”
Yakima, Washington’s Single Hill Brewing Company will add Greenway Pale Ale to its core lineup in early August, replacing longtime staple Lateral A IPA in retail accounts across the greater Seattle area and at both of the brewery's retail locations. The beer will be available on draft and in 16-oz cans by August, and the first batch is getting canned up on Tuesday, July 28th.
Greenway is a modern, West Coast–style pale ale brewed with Riwaka, Mosaic, and Centennial hops over a pilsner malt base. At 5.2% ABV and 35 IBU, it's built to be lower in strength than the IPAs it sits alongside, with pine and lime zest aromatics and a crackery malt backbone.
The change keeps Single Hill's core lineup at four beers, swapping one of its IPAs for a pale ale that the brewery says gives hop-forward drinkers a lighter, everyday option alongside its existing core beers.
"We've been working on these lighter, hop-forward beers as rotators for years, and decided it was finally time to put our signature on a pale ale that will be available every day, all year round," said Andrew Pytel, Director of Sales and Marketing at Single Hill Brewing. "Lateral A is a great beer, but it overlapped too much with our other core IPAs and rotating IPAs. We think it will have more time to shine as a rotating option."
Lateral A isn't disappearing for good. The brewery plans to bring it back seasonally as Fresh Hop Lateral A and as an occasional rotating release.
Greenway will roll out to Single Hill's two retail locations and Seattle-area accounts in the first week of August; further distribution details will follow.
