Mt. Hood Brewing Expansion Calls for Cans

Only 29 years after opening, Mt. Hood Brewing Co. is expanding their 10bbl brewery with new production space that should greatly increase their presence. The currently ongoing construction comes a year and a half after the Government Camp, Oregon-based operation opened a Portland taproom called Tilikum Station.

In the 90's you could find Mt. Hood Brewing beers like Ice Axe IPA and Hogshead Stout on taps all around Portland but it's rare to find outside of their two locations and Timberline Lodge. Currently Mt. Hood Brewing produces about 1,200 barrels of beer per year, but wants to double that and do more barrel-aging, bottling seasonals and canning their beers. By late 2020 Mt. Hood Brewing would like to have their beers in bottle shops and beer bars around Oregon.

Construction is currently underway on a new building adjacent to the existing brewery. Walls, roof and siding are already in-place on the expansion and Bremik Construction is working on the interior. The expansion will add two new fermentation tanks, brite tanks and dry and cold storage. A canning line has already been purchased and the expansion should be completed by late spring or early summer 2020.

Mt. Hood Brewing Co. was established in 1991 in the alpine village of Government Camp, OR, at the base of Mt. Hood. In October 1992, the newly constructed ten-barrel brewery rolled out its first barrel. Since then, MHBC’s distinctive ales have been produced by the union of pure Mt. Hood glacial water, Northwest barley and hops, and the inspiration of its brewers. R.L.K. and Company, operators of Mt. Hood Brewing Co. and Timberline Lodge, appointed Bryan Borgmeier as Head Brewer in fall 2016. Jeff McAllester has been a brewer at MHBC since 2002.
