Portland Brewery and Homebrew Supply Shop is For Sale

North Portland's Look Long Brewing and it's sister homebrewing supply shop Homebrew Exchange are for sale. Founded in 2009, Homebrew Exchange (HBX) has been a player in N. Portland's home cider, wine, and cheese making for more then a decade. In 2016 new employee owners stepped in to running HBX and in 2018 they opened Look Long in the same space with a 1bbl electric brewhouse and on-site indoor/outdoor taproom.

HBX and Look Long co-owners Aaron Fabbri, Stanley Barnes, Rory Schellinger and Shane Graff are looking to fully or partially divest from the business to pursue other interest.

"With a sale we will all likely be relinquishing our interest, though any of us might be talked into sticking around if the terms are favorable.  Our best case scenario would be for someone to keep the store and taproom running as a turn-key operation," says co-owner Rory Schellinger.

HBX/Look Long Brewing has an eclectic intimate 2,000 sq. ft. indoor pub with vintage games, all the gear you need for homebrewing with a fair bit of outdoor space and an on-site food truck. The business serves as the local pub as well as the most convenient spot for home fermentation enthusiasts to purchase supplies in N. Portland. Schellinger says they are looking to sell the entire operation as a turnkey investment that can continue to be successful.

"We’ve been surviving during the coronavirus pandemic shutdown with curbside service and great support from our customers. Business has been okay, as homebrewing often surges during recessions and unemployment," says Schellinger.

Any sale of Look Long/HBX would come with supplier contacts, a web store and POS platform, beer and supply inventory and 1 BBL electric brewhouse from Stout Tanks with four 1 bbl conical fermenters and a 1 bbl brite tank. The flexibility of a homebrew supply shop with licensed commercial brewery has allowed the operation to make custom brews for events like weddings, birthdays or company parties. The taproom can host release parties and social events, and has been a gathering spot for live music, trivia and neighborhood community events.

"Look Long Brewing is a DBA, so it could easily be rebranded and might especially be interesting to an already established brewery that is looking to open a N Portland taproom," adds Shellinger.

HBX/Look Long does not have a kitchen, but does have an on-site food truck Long Do Thai and will soon be joined by Hail Snail, a food truck serving vegan cinnamon rolls. With multiple successful businesses on the premises, close proximity to the Rosa Parks MAX train stop, the building owner hopes to maintain the brewery/homebrew supply business as a neighborhood hub in the Arbor Lodge and Overlook neighborhoods off of N. Interstate. But if the business does not find a new owner soon, they will likely close and sell off assets as soon as this coming Fall. Interested buyers should contact them at info@homebrewexchange.net.
