First look at Migration Brewing Rooftop at Canvas in Downtown Portland
Hello Again Session IPA at Migration Brewing Rooftop at Canvas
Migration Brewing will open a new location in downtown Portland this Thursday, August 26th at the brand new Canvas building at the Press Blocks. Migration Brewing Rooftop at Canvas is an outdoor centric taproom that was in the works before the pandemic but is perfectly situated to take advantage of open air drinking and city views.
Migration Rooftop at Canvas is a temporary taproom in southwest Portland with aspirations to become a permanent oasis for the area. The Canvas Building is the first part of a three-building development called the Press Blocks between 16th and 18th streets off of Yamhill. The project will consist of a 23-story residential building, more than 150,000 square feet of office space, and an outdoor public plaza with dining and street-front retail.
Developed and managed by Urban Renaissance Group, the Press Blocks are part of a larger, long-term vision for this emerging neighborhood to create a natural corridor between the Timbers and Thorns home stadium. The 9 story building is as of yet unoccupied - but is courting office tenants from the tech and financial sectors.
The Press Blocks/Canvas are named after the original Oregonian newspaper printing press building which previously stood in the same place. It's an ode to old Portland media which helped establish downtown. The developers consider this a first step into bringing a more vibrant community to the area and the Migration Taproom is a way to promote the building and support local business.

The Migration Rooftop taproom is a 2,000 square feet patio space with 13 tables and gorgeous views of the SW hills and Providence Park. The taproom is 21+ only with a light food menu of beer friendly pre-made snacks like charcuterie and cheese boards, pickles and veggie boars, focaccia and oil, etc.
Originally envisioned as an office community area for social events, work breaks and office events, the 9th floor rooftop was not intended to be a commercial space. With the ongoing effects of COVID-19 discouraging live sporting events and on-site office visits, the developers knew filling the Canvas building with tenants would take some time. Migration Brewing makes for a sustainable pivot that will draw people to the area and in time could become a hotspot for happy hours and late night drinks before and after sporting events across the street.
The Migration Rooftop is a modern polished space, with clean and clear lines and views that are sure to attract both locals and tourists. The primarily outdoors space has a glassed in indoor area featuring four draft beers and a selection of packaged cans of Migration beer, Reverend Nat's Cider, 3 wines, hard seltzer and non-alcoholic options. The seasonally appropriate patio is perfect for the summer, but will be outfitted with table tents and heaters as the weather shifts into fall.

A host will guide you to the elevators to the roof and is making sure everyone is socially distanced, masked-up and following all health and safety guidelines.
Migration Brewing Rooftop at the Canvas will be open Thursday through Sunday from 1-10pm at 817 SW 17th St Portland OR 97205.
