Two New Beer Books by Portland Authors
This Tuesday, both local author Jeff Alworth's "The Widmer Way" and local cheesemonger Steve Jones Cheese Pairings book "Cheese Beer Wine Cider: A Field Guide to 75 Perfect Pairings" (co-written by Adam Lindsley) have Portland author signings. While Alworth's exploration of Widmer Brothers Brewing's history and legacy is the more beer-centric of the two, Steve Jones is a known beer geek and top proponent of beer as the best beverage to pair with cheese. You can meet Alworth and purchase his book at Widmer Brothers taproom from 5-7pm on Tuesday, and Steve Jones will be with his book at Belmont Station from 5-7pm. 
The Widmer Way: How Two Brothers Led Portland’s Craft Beer Revolution, a new book by Portland beer guru Jeff Alworth (The Beer Bible, Beer Tasting Tool Kit), chronicles Kurt and Rob’s journey from humble homebrewers to craft beer pioneers who invented the Original American Hefeweizen, which became a national sensation.
Drawing on hours of interviews with Kurt and Rob, close family and friends, and big names in the brewing industry, the book is a trove of beer history, anecdotes, and stories of Kurt and Rob’s deep connection to the city of Portland, which honored the Brothers’ contributions by officially delegating May 15th as Hefe Day, an official Portland holiday since 2015.
“Kurt and Rob sparked a craft beer revolution: from their origins as homebrewers to creating one of the most successful beer brands in the country,” Alworth said. “They’re incredibly knowledgeable about beer and the brewing industry, of course, but they’re also eminently interesting characters, which makes for a great story.”
April 2nd Book Launch Party with Kurt Widmer and Jeff Alworth at the Widmer Brothers Brewery
Co-founder Kurt Widmer will join Jeff Alworth at the Widmer Brothers Brewery on Tuesday, April 2nd from 5-7pm, at a party to celebrate the launch of The Widmer Way and kick off the Portland-area book tour.
Guests can taste brand-new Widmer Brothers beers brewed in the adjacent innovation brewery and Widmer Brothers will also raffle off prizes, including signed copies of The Widmer Way and gameday tickets for the Portland Trail Blazers, Portland Timbers, and Portland Thorns—all longtime Widmer Brothers partners.
