Migration Brewing to open Williams Pub in former Hopworks BikeBar space
Update 3/8/2021: Migration Brewing on Williams is now open.
As they approach their 11th anniversary, Migration Brewing will open their fourth location in the former home of Hopworks Bikebar. A long-term lease in the sustainable EcoFlats building at 3947 North Williams Street confirms Migration Brewing’s commitment to on-premise taprooms. As first reported by the New School in October, Hopworks closed their North Williams Pub (originally called BikeBar) to refocus on their two more spacious brewpubs and off-premise packaged beer sales.
Migration Brewing Williams Ave. pub will have 3,000 sq. ft. of space indoors and another 2,000 sq. ft. on the back patio that has long been a not-so-obvious outdoors respite along the busy biking and eating and drinking corridor. Unlike Hopworks, Migration Brewing will not serve pizza but will bring in a full food menu similar to their Americana grub offered at their original Glisan St. pub. It will remain a family friendly taproom after it undergoes a six-week tenant improvement to refresh the interior and improve the outdoor seating area.
“We’re really excited about this opportunity. This is a great chance for us to expand our brand to a new neighborhood that is bustling with great energy,” says CEO McKean Banzer-Lausberg. “We’ve worked really hard to stay positive over the past year and have been looking for creative ways to keep growing in a pandemic. We feel very fortunate to be in a position to take on this project,” states Banzer-Lausberg.
“We’re excited to bring a lot of programming over from our original NE Glisan St location. There will be 18 taps of fresh beer, great food and an amazing patio,” says Pubs Director Colin Rath. Migration Brewing has historically taken pride in community integration and this project is no different. “It was really important to us to reach out to the other brewpubs and businesses in the neighborhood to let them know our plans, and we look forward to being involved with the local neighborhood associations,” says Rath.
Last year had many changes for Migration’s taprooms, they hired a new operations manager, closed their Lloyd Center Mall burger shack location, and opened one of the best patios in the city at their seasonal rooftop location at the Canvas. Who knows what else 2021 has in-store, but fans of the Rooftop at Canvas will be pleased to learn that it will also open up again this Spring alongside the new Williams Ave. location in March.
