New Zealand hops 3-Way IPA variant from Fort George Brewery

2021 3-Way IPA New Zealand hops.jpg

Since the late May release of the 2021 version of Fort George Brewery’s 3-Way IPA social media has been awash with posts and debates on how this years version brewed with Varietal Beer Co. and Moonraker Brewing compared to past collaborations. But if you thought you had already made up your mind on where this years 3-Way fell on the power rankings of past years, you now have to seek out the alternate New Zealand hopped edition.

This new 3-Way recipe is en route to cities around the PNW as we type this. Southern Hemisphere grown hops are all the rage these days, so it seems appropriate that Fort George’s cutting edge hop showcase would double down on that signature flavor. 3-Way IPA NZ edition is dry-hopped with all New Zealand grown hops flown in by Fort George and according to the brewery “increasing its tastiness by 3 to 8 arbitrary tastiness points.”

PICKIN' WILD MOUNTAIN BERRIES

And if hops are not your thing, Fort George has a bunch of wild mountain berry fruit beers in colorfully unique bottles. These unique berry Fruit Beers began in French oak puncheons with a mixed culture full of wild and funky yeast, then they split it in two. One was jam packed with raspberries, while the other half got heaps of tayberries, marionberries, and boysenberries. The results are reminiscent of raspberry lemonade or a homemade berry jam. It’s like a walk through the woods enjoying those wild mountain berries. Wild Mountain was fermented in French oak Pinot Noir puncheons for 5 months before re-fermenting on fruit for another 4 months. Barely sweet and easy summer drinking.

Raspberry ABV: 5.8%
Mixed Berry ABV: 5.8%
Hops: Perle Melon, Hull Melon
Malts: Weyermann Pilsner, White Wheat, Flaked Wheat
Yeast: Mixed Culture
