N. Portland taproom Mayfly hosts Spontaneous Festival of Wild and Sour Beers

N. Portland’s community oriented bottle shop and taproom Mayfly is hosting a “spontaneous” surprise mini-beer fest this Saturday, July 10th and fans of funky, sour and wild beers and ciders should take note.

“Over the past year we have been stocking up on Spontaneous, Mix-Ferm and other Barreled Beers and Ciders with the idea of someday pulling the trigger (nearly) last minute and throwing a fun, funky beer fest highlighting some of our favorite sour breweries/blenderies/cideries,” says Mayfly co-owner Ryan Born.

The carefully considered list of bottles and cans rounds out to 9 beers and 4 ciders all will become available starting this Saturday at noon. But if you want to hob nob with some of the brewers and reps behind the beverages, many will be hanging out in-person from 5-7pm and some even pouring free samples and talking about their products and special rare bottle clubs.

Mayfly is now hosting people indoors, but also has an extensive outdoor seating plaza to take in some fresh air, sun rays and the Kenton neighborhood community.

“We have taken a unique approach to our pricing structure on these kegs as these types of ferments often demand a higher cost, thus making it more difficult to enjoy the whole lot,” says Born.

Instead of a ticketed event or the commitment of purchasing a glass and drink tix they are instead customizing sizes of pours and prices to match the limited amount and price of each keg, bottle or can. That translates to 4oz. and 10oz. pours of all 13 offerings (no growler or crowler fills). 4 oz pours range from $3.50-$4.50 and 10 oz. pours range from $7-9.
