Fort George releases New England-style Hazy 3-Way IPA variant

We knew it was coming, that Fort George Brewery just couldn’t resist dropping some clouds into a 3-Way IPA release. The brewery surprised many fans when they announced and released this years annual release of 3-Way IPA as a clear West Coast IPA in collaboration with Ravenna Brewing of Seattle and Alvarado Street of Monterey, California. But after last years alternate New Zealand hop variant of the 2021 3-Way IPA we knew anything was possible.

Fans have got used to 3-Way IPA being hazy, even if it didn’t start that way. The first ever 3-Way was actually more of an India Pale Lager, somewhat inspired by Fort George’s 1811 pre-prohibition style lager. Their collaborators that year Gigantic and Lompoc Brewing loved the yeast, and so they inadvertently made one of the first Cold IPA’s.

For months Fort George teased the 2022 3-Way with Beta test batches that were both hazy and clear. They made careful hop selections, brewing trials, extensive research, and last minute recipe changes all with the question in mind “New England Hazy or West Coast?” but maybe all along they knew the answer was both.

Fort George is pouring the New England version of 3-Way IPA at their brewpub in Astoria, Oregon starting this Saturday, June 11th. Cans are now available for shipping via their website in both West Coast and Hazy, or even get a mixed case.
