Sierra Nevada Brewing to release 7-year aged Bourbon Barrel-Aged Bigfoot Barleywine in collaboration with Buffalo Trace

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. has teamed-up with Buffalo Trace to make Colonel E.H. Taylor Bourbon Barrel-Aged Bigfoot. The special edition version of Sierra Nevada’s iconic barleywine is aged for 7 years in barrels, the final year spent in E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon barrels and marks that brands first national beer collaboration.

Colonel E.H. Taylor Bourbon Barrel-Aged Bigfoot is 15% ABV and offered in 750ml bottles in a canister reminiscent of the E.H. Taylor, Jr. Bourbon packaging. The beer offers rich flavors of molasses, caramel, and burnt sugar balanced by whole-cone Pacific Northwest hops found in Sierra Nevada’s cult-classic Bigfoot Ale. A seven-year soak in spirit barrels unleashes a world of flavor, and the distinctive flavor of Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon shines through.

“The time in the barrels has changed the beer and made it so complex,” said Sierra Nevada Product Manager Terence Sullivan. “We love collaborations. But something of this magnitude—some of the finest beer and some of the finest bourbon in the world—it’s really something special.”

“Both Sierra Nevada and Buffalo Trace Distillery are pioneers in innovation amongst their categories,” said Buffalo Trace Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley. “Collaborating on a project like this is quite special. Both companies have made a massive impact on pushing the boundaries of craft beer and American whiskey, leading the foray into premiumizing the industry.”

Colonel E.H. Taylor Bourbon Barrel-Aged Bigfoot will only be available in select markets and in limited quantities through Sierra Nevada’s online shop. Both the beer bottle and the canister packaging represent a perfect blend of both Sierra Nevada Bigfoot and E.H. Taylor, Jr.
