Great Notion Brewing reopening SE Division Street Beer Garden

Portland, Oregon’s Hazy NE-style IPA and pastry/dessert beer leaders Great Notion Brewing have announced the reopening of their 2015 southeast Division Street Beer Garden. The pop-up temporary taproom opened last summer, with a possibility of becoming permanent before it closed in the fall as the weather got cooler. Also coinciding with the reopening weekend, Great Notion is throwing a Get On The Bus Week promo kicking off on Bicycle Day, Wednesday April 19th, 2023.

More from an announcement:

Owners Paul Reiter, James Dugan and Andy Miller are big fans of Oregon legend Ken Kesey and his band of Merry Pranksters, thus the brewery name and beer references stemming from Sometimes a Great Notion. With that culture in mind, GNB is celebrating its second annual Get on the Bus Week with special beer and merch drops on Bicycle Day 4/19. What is Get on the Bus Week one might ask? It’s GNB’s celebration of the week encompassing Bicycle Day (the first recorded LSD “trip” by Albert Hoffman on 4/19) and of course the celebration of cannabis on 4/20. Unique beers that only appear annually on this heady week to look out for and try in beer flights, regular draft pours or packaged 16oz cans to go include:

  • Reefer(m) Madness - Remember the fun Reefer Madness movie?!?! 6.3% Smoothie-style tart ale with Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry, Raspberry, Mangosteen and Marshmallow. ● Bicycle Day - 7.5% Fruited Sour Ale with Peach, Apricot, Pineapple and Orange. Surprise unexpected color to celebrate the trip!

  • Merriest Dankster - 10% Haze for days! Hazy Triple IPA with Columbus, Simcoe and Enigma hops

  • POG Frog - 6% Tart Ale with Passionfruit, Orange and Guava

  • Triple Dank Shark - 10% Uber-dank Hazy Triple IPA with Strata, Nelson Sauvin, Citra and Galaxy hops

Other fun notables during GOTBW include:

  • $1 off draft pours on Bicycle Day 4/19 for customers who ride their bike into any of our taprooms

  • Fun scratch off contests with prizes with purchase of GOTBW flights, a la Monopoly style where customers can win free merchandise, discounted beer or even a FREE BIKE!

  • Bicycle Day hats and other cool merchandise!

  • Tattoo bus at Division with Great Notion tattoos

Get on the Bus Week also coincides with the reopening of Great Notion’s Portland SE Division St. Pop-Up. The outdoor beer garden is slated to serve beer flights, full draft pours, packaged beer to go and merchandise starting on Thursday, April 20th (4/20) with open hours Thurs-Sun 3-9 and then beginning in June, 12pm-9pm 7 days a week. Food will be provided from the amazing Papi Sals like last year, but with rad food collaborations from their friends! Additional details to come on that note from GNB’s local Oregon Instagram account, @greatnotionoregon. The Division St. beer garden will also have giant Jenga, giant Connect 4, cornhole and more fun.

“We are hype to kick off the Spring season the right way with our outdoor PDX beer garden and hella fun beers,” exclaims Great Notion CEO Paul Reiter. “Get on the Bus Week was super rad last year with almost every customer blown away by the flavors of our GOTBW flight. We expect to level up the vibe this year tenfold!”

Customers can purchase GNB’s Get on the Bus Week beers at greatnotion.com, on the GN mobile App, or one of Great Notion’s 7 locations in Seattle, Portland, Sacramento or Berkeley.
