Old Town Pizza from Old Town Brewing celebrates 50th Anniversary

Old Town Brewing’s original Old Town Pizza location is celebrating their 50th anniversary on April 14th from 4-9pm with $2.50 pints, and discounted pizzas and on ‘Believe in Portland’ beer benefiting non-profit Word is Bond.

Old Town Pizza opened in April of 1974 in one of Portland’s longest standing buildings in the former The Merchant Hotel, in the historic old town neighborhood. The building is famous partly because of its access to the famous Shanghai Tunnels built below its depths and running from the west hills to the waterfront, these mysterious tunnels have been buried or blocked off but at certain points like from the pizzeria basement they are accessible to guided tours and events.

Twenty-nine years after it was founded, Old Town Pizza was purchased by longtime customer and fan Adam Milne, who had fell in love with the business and Portland, even celebrating his 9th birthday at the pizza pub. Milne purchased Old Town Pizza from the original owners the Accuardi family in 2003. Five years later they built the Old Town Brewing location in northeast Portland’s Alberta area with reclaimed materials, some from the 1800-1900's, evoking an atmosphere of Northwest authenticity and sustainability. It took another 3 years before they would be up and brewing, officially becoming Old Town Brewing. Over the years, OT Brewing has won a serious of prestigious awards for their beers, and become a major proponent for the rejuvenation of Portland and commitment to the city and local community, helping to launch the ‘Believe in Portland’ project in 2023.

The business is now its own family, with two Old Town Brewing and Old Town Pizza locations still going strong (and now self-distributing their own beers), and expanded to include the affiliated Baby Doll Pizza in 2018.

“We believed in Portland 50 years ago, and our love and commitment to our city is stronger more than ever 50 years later. We thank you for your support over the last five decades!,” says Old Town Brewing & Pizza owner Adam Milne.
