Update: Rosenstadt Taproom Now Open ****
Rosenstadt Brewery, a Portland, Oregon based brand known for their traditional German-style ales and lagers, is opening their first ever taproom just in time for their 10th anniversary. Previously contract brewing their beers like Pilsner, Kolsch, Helles, and Dunkel, Rosenstadt started as draft-only and then began bottling in 2020 during the pandemic shutdown, then pivoted again to 16oz cans available in grocery stores and bottleshops around the region.
Rosenstadt was founded by friends Tobias Hahn and Nick Greiner in 2015. Hahn is a German expat hailing from Freiburg, and a Ph.D. microbiologist by trade. Nick Greiner has a hospitality and retail marketing background, and his wife is German. Hahn and Greiner met taking their children to German language classes, and found they had much in common, including beer.

Over the years Rosenstadt Brewery has worked with everyone from the late Max’s Fanno Creek Brewpub, to Portland Brewing Co., Barrett Beverage, and Fearless Brewing. Currently Rosenstadt brews their beers at Occidental Brewing, Zoiglhaus Brewing, and Hopworks Brewery with no plans to end those partnerships. Until now the closest Rosenstadt has came to having a physical brick-and-mortar location was their ongoing alliance with famed Portland-brand Olympia Provisions which began featuring their beers at the OP Public House in 2018. OP Public House became Alpenrausch in 2024 and still pours Rosenstadt beer including a new beer called Hüttli brewed for their summer beer garden Alpenhutte.
Rosenstadt Brewery is taking over the space at 2117 NE Oregon St, Portland, OR 97232 previously occupied by Culmination Brewing which closed in February under a cloud of controversy. Located in The Bindery Annex building, Rosenstadt will be neighbors to the acclaimed restaurant Kachka’s upcoming distillery and cocktail bar in the former Aimsir Distilling.

“Frankly, this opportunity dropped in our lap just a few weeks ago,” says Nick Greiner. “We’ve been working on setting down roots for awhile, with a couple of false starts…the space feels right and the location is great.”
Rosenstadt is now in the permitting process to rebuild and remodel with hopes of a quick turnaround and a summer 2025 opening. How the project develops and the answers to burning questions like will they have Kolsch service, 1-liter steins, side pull lagers, and maybe some bratwurst and German potato salad are still up in the air. And now that Occidental Brewing has slowly moved away from German-style beers, Rosenstadt will be the only all German-style brewery in Portland and debatably the entire state.
