Double Mountain Brewery releases new vintages of Devil’s Kriek and Tahoma Kriek

Double Mountain Brewery & Cidery’s influential and fan favorite Belgian-style fruited wild ales are back. Devil’s Kriek and Tahoma Kriek were among the first Lambic-inspired beers made in Oregon, a time consuming passion project of the Brewer’s Reserve Sour Program developed over years showcasing the Columbia River Gorge terroir.

More from a release:

Each year, Double Mountain crafts a small number of Belgian-Style Sour Ales using fruit (cherries & peaches) sourced exclusively from the Hood River Valley, with wild cultures and Brettanomyces that are as local as the fruit they thrive on. These beers are aged on the fruit until the brewers deem they are ready, which often takes 9 to 16 months of careful, quiet cellaring. After this process, some of the beers are bottled and kegged as Krieks, while the rest of the beer is transferred into oak barrels and aged even further to become Cuvées, which takes another year or two. The result is something rare, expressive, elegant...and worth the wait.

This year, Double Mountain is thrilled to release two extraordinary Brewer’s Reserve Sour Ales: 2024 Devil’s Kriek Belgian Style Sour Ale with Cherries and 2019 Tahoma Cuvée Belgian Style Sour Ale with Cherries Aged in Oak Barrels. While these beers may appear briefly on draft at the taprooms, they are primarily available in 375mL bottles and are ready for your cellar, your table, or your next celebration!

And when working with Brettanomyces, that care also includes a whole lot of cleaning. “We practically take the brewery apart and scrub it down,” says Head Brewer Greg Balch. “It’s exhausting and it takes days, but it is so worth it.” Although lovely, Brett. Claussenii (or any wild yeast or fungi for that matter), is not welcome in any of Double Mountain’s other beers.

Half of the 2024 Devil’s Kriek has already gone into oak barrels for a future Cuvée. While you wait, Double Mountain invites you to enjoy these limited, lovingly-made new sour releases, and encourages to check out their other Brewer Reserve Beers, available only while the bottles last!

2024 Devil’s Kriek

Belgian Style Sour Ale with Cherries

9.5% ABV | 11 BU

Sitting on a mountain of locally grown cherries, this sour ale rests for more than a year on the fruit. Our house yeasts and Brett. Claussenii provides complexity and depth to this ruby beauty, pushing aromas of bright cherry.

2019 Tahoma Cuvée

Belgian Style Sour Ale with Cherries Aged In Oak Barrels

9% ABV | 11 BU

This brewer’s blend is a confluence of our favorite barrels of the ‘19 vintage of Tahoma. Racked off the Hood River Valley Rainier cherries and rested in barrels in our cellars, this sour ale is ripe with bright peach, smooth oak, and a tart finish.

Both Devil’s Kriek and Tahoma Cuvée are available in 375mL bottles at all Double Mountain locations. Draft appearances are possible, but limited.
