Former Heathen Brewing Feral Public House to reopen as Loyal Legion Vancouver

Chefstable Group, a Portland-based backer of chef-driven restaurants, bars and concepts, known for helping build brands like Lardo Sandwiches, Grassa, Fracture Brewing and Loyal Legion beer hall, has purchased Heathen Brewing’s Feral Public House.

The New School has learned the property is slated to become the first Loyal Legion public house in Washington and Chefstable’s second attempt at exporting the concept out of Oregon and into a neighboring state. The new pub will have a similar food menu with burgers, sausages, pretzels, and salads, but with a focus on Washington brewed beers instead of Oregon-made.

Previously Chefstable had launched a Loyal Legion location in Sacramento, California in 2022 that closed a little more than a year later in 2023. The original Loyal Legion “Oregon Beer Hall” in inner southeast Portland recently celebrated it’s 10th anniversary in September. The brand has successfully expanded to Beaverton in 2021, and a Portland International Airport location in 2024. All three of the current Loyal Legion locations boast up to 100 drafts lines primarily draft craft beer, supplemented by a full liquor selection, cider, seltzer, and beers and wine from Chefstable owned sister brands like contract brewed Fracture Brewing and Cooper’s Hall wines.

The former Feral Public House is a 10,000 sq. ft. property at 1109 Washington St in the heart of downtown Vancouver, Washington that was the centerpiece property for the 2012 founded Heathen Brewing since they first expanded there in 2015. Made up of a 5,000 sq. ft. restaurant and bar on the main floor, a 4,900 sq. ft. in a fenced outdoor seating area including a 2,300 sq. ft. covered and heated outdoor area, the property has a full service kitchen, liquor license, and an additional 5k of basement space that will become one of Loyal Legion’s signature speakeasys. The property was listed for sale at $2.4 million in April and the Feral Public House closed down on Sunday, October 12th with Heathen confirming “A beer-centric restaurant group is moving in with big remodel plans and hopes to reopen in Spring 2026.”

Loyal Legion’s move follows the recent expansion of Oregon’s Breakside Brewery into downtown Vancouver in May, and changes in the local beer scene such as new ownership reimagining Final Draft Taphouse.
