Rage Room Portland  Opens at Hopworks Brewery with Free Axe  Throwing for Oregon Dog Rescue Donors

A new Portland rage room at Hopworks Brewery turns discarded bar glass into entertainment while raising thousands of dollars for local dog rescue

Smash glass, throw axes, crush pizza and brewpub fare while washing it down with local craft beer all in one place. Rage Room Portland and Celtic Axe Throwers will celebrate the grand opening of their  new location inside Hopworks Brewery on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 5–9 p.m. The event will feature new rage rooms, free axe throwing for anyone who donates to  Oregon Dog Rescue, and happy-hour beer pricing from Hopworks.

Oregon Dog Rescue will be on site during the event to share its rescue efforts, connect  with guests and raise support for dogs in need.

The partnership extends beyond grand-opening night. Rage Room Portland works with  Oregon Dog Rescue year-round through Glass Hound, its recycling and community-giving  program that collects discarded glass from Portland-area bars, breweries and restaurants.

Glass Hound picks up used bottles and glass from participating businesses for use in Rage  Room Portland’s smash experiences. Afterward, the materials are collected and recycled  whenever possible. The program also gives back financially to Oregon Dog Rescue, with  thousands of dollars donated so far this year.

“It’s a great way to get bars invested in recycling glass with us and a great way to give back  to Oregon Dog Rescue and help dogs,” said David Maher. “It’s a win-win for everyone.”

Stressed Out, Screened Out and Ready to Get Out

After a long workday, sometimes dinner and another night in front of a screen just doesn’t  cut it.

The popularity of Rage Rooms and other experience-based entertainment reflects a  growing interest in nights out that are social, physical, memorable and a little  unexpected. Rage rooms and axe throwing take that idea a step further, giving people a  place to blow off steam, laugh with friends and do something they definitely can’t do at the  office.

That appetite for experiences — combined with an economy in which both consumers and  local businesses are looking for more value — helped spark the partnership between Rage Room Portland, Celtic Axe Throwers and Hopworks Brewery.

Rather than asking customers to choose between dinner, drinks and entertainment, the  businesses are bringing all three together in one location. Guests can smash bottles in a  rage room, throw axes, grab a Hopworks beer and a meal, and turn an ordinary night out  into an experience.

“We continue to encourage people to get off their screens — and in this case, come smash  them,” said Rage Room Portland owner Mark Maher. “People are looking for ways to get  out of the office, blow off some steam and actually do something together. Now you can  throw axes, smash some stuff, grab a beer and have a great night all in one place.”

For the businesses, the partnership also represents a creative approach to a challenging  economy: local companies sharing space, audiences and experiences while giving  customers more reasons to get out and support local businesses.

Rage Room Portland is operated by the team behind Celtic Axe Throwers, Portland’s  longest-running axe-throwing company, which has built a community of more than 175  active axe league members.

About Glass Hound

Glass Hound is Rage Room Portland’s recycling and community-giving program. The  program partners with local restaurants, bars and breweries to collect used glass for Rage  Room Portland’s smash experiences.

After the fun is over, materials are collected and recycled whenever possible. Glass Hound  also raises money and awareness for Oregon Dog Rescue, with thousands of dollars  donated year to date.

The result: local businesses have another way to recycle their glass, rage room guests get  something uniquely Portland to smash, and local rescue dogs benefit.

About Rage Room Portland

Rage Room Portland is a locally owned entertainment company created by the team  behind Celtic Axe Throwers. Guests can smash bottles, electronics and other objects  inside private rage rooms, throw axes with trained coaches, or combine both experiences  for parties, date nights, corporate events and group outings.
