RIP 29+ Oregon Breweries, Taprooms & Cidery that Closed in 2025
There were 29+ Oregon breweries, taprooms, bottleshops, and cidery that closed in 2025 which was significantly less than the preceding few years. Despite the optics of such a large number of closures, only 9 actual breweries closed, an additional 4 if you count contract beer brands and more if you count satellite taprooms. In total it’s far less than the 35+ that closed in 2024 of which 22 were actual beer breweries equipment and all.
Bunk Beer Hall at Bridgeport Village (Portland)
The acclaimed sandwich masters Bunk Sandwiches expanded to the Bridgeport Village shopping center in December 2021 with the Bunk Beer Hall. The new location marked a shift in the Bunk brand which was established as a gritty, almost punk rock style hole-in-the-wall with to-go sandwiches on SE Belmont. Bunk Beer Hall took on a clean sports bar aesthetic with TV’s, a patio, and an arcade, plus 20 taps of draft beer, cider, cocktails and the same great sandwiches. Bunk Beer Hall made it for 3 years before losing their lease and closing permanently on January 31st. The Bunk Bar on SE Water Ave. is the last remaining Bunk location.
Further Beer (Portland)
Not a standalone brewery itself, Further Beer was a separate brewery brand created by N. Portland’s Occidental Brewing. Further Beer had its own brand identity separate from Occidental’s classic German-style, and these beers were designed for mainstream Northwest beer styles like American IPA and Red Ale. Occidental quietly wound down Further Beer by early 2025 and began introducing similar beers into their regular lineup as they slightly stray from German traditions.
Culmination Brewing (NE Portland)
2016’s best new Oregon brewery came to a controversial end on February 15th 2025 nearly a year after co-founder Tomas Sluiter had initially announced Culmination’s closure only to later leave the company. Culmination Brewing made its mark on the industry over the years with many of the brewers and staff making a name for themselves and going on to open or brew at other great places in town such as Pizza Thief, Living Haus, Sit Tite, Stormbreaker, and Von Ebert amongst others. Unfortunately the later years of the brewery were plagued by accusations of questionable internal culture, misleading and stiffing lenders, and even abusing staff and vendors both verbally and financially.
Mutantis Brewery + Bottle Shop (NE Portland)
Jason Yerger, original brewmaster of Seattle’s Ghostfish Brewing opened gluten-free bottleshop and brewery Mutantis in March 2023. Mutantis promoted themselves as the first 100% dedicated gluten-free taproom and bottle shop in the world. The location, nearby the original Breakside on NE Dekum, was in the space of the former Hi-Wheel Fizzy Wines, but struggled to gain traction. Yerger later transitioned to Deja Indigo Yerger (She/They) becoming Portland's only trans-owned gluten-free vegan brewery and an outspoken proponent of progressive causes. Mutantis closed in May 2025 and had been seeking a new tenant to take over their turnkey operation.
The Growler Guys - Westside (Bend)
The popular to-go growler trend that helped power the explosion of craft beer in the 2010’s was arguably started in Bend, Oregon by startup The Growler Guys. From a stop-n-go mini mart they poured from 40+ taps and filled tens of thousands or more of beer to-go from the tap 64oz at a time. The concept proved such a hit that their custom digital tap board design and display became a too often repeated layout choice in copycat beer bars as The Growler Guys franchised new locations around the country. The original Growler Guys owners sold the company in 2019 and the very first location on the Eastside of Bend closed in 2023, then earlier this Spring 2025 the last remaining Bend location on the westside closed as well. There are still 5 locations of The Growler Guys in Oregon (Astoria, Ashland, Klamath Falls, Grants Pass) but they no longer have any presence in Bend where they were founded.
The Growler Guys (S. Portland Waterfont)
The last location of The Growler Guys in Portland seems to have closed at the end of October. Located on the S. Portland waterfront, this beer hall’s last post on social media was 10/25 and their page on The Growler Guys website is deleted with no mention in their map of locations. Also a new business that opened on November 17th called Last Stop PDX is now listed in the same location 3739 S Bond Ave and features craft cocktails, beer, pizza.
Boss Rambler Beer Club (Bend)
When Matt Molletta, wife Kate Molletta, and brewer Jacob Bansmer launched Boss Rambler Beer Club from a window in Bend, Oregon in 2018 it was one of the hottest and most anticipated breweries in Oregon. Molletta and Bansmer were both veterans of Crux Fermentation Project and brought a colorful pop aesthetic and super contemporary hazy and smoothie beers to play. When the Boss Rambler Beer Club taproom opened with a morning coffee shop and indoor beer hall and a corner for instagram photo opps, plus a killer people watching patio, it was the hottest beer spot in town. In 2024 Molletta and BRBC pivoted to spinning off their lite lager Stokes Light into its own brand called Stokes Cold Ones with American, Mexican and Japanese-style lagers. Boss Rambler shut down in September 2025 and said they were going to focus on growing Stokes Cold Ones, but it's unclear if that is the case as Matt Molletta didnt respond to multiple inquiries and there have been no updates on the brand and little beer available on the market.
McMenamins Rams Head (NW Portland)
One of the older and smaller locations in McMenamins empire of taverns, hotels, breweries and restaurants closed in June. The McMenamins Rams Head located in the historic Campbell building on NW 23rd Ave in Portland wasn’t one of the more talked about pubs, but it was beloved by locals. After 35 years McMenamins Rams Head Pub lease was up, and the cost of renewal to great. Rams Head closed at the end of June 2025 and according to McMenamins it was only the third location they have ever closed.
Shimai-Toshi Brewing (Portland)
It’s unclear exactly when the Japanese inspired citrus forward beer brand Shimai-Toshi Brewing shut down, but their last posting about the product was in October 2024 so production likely wrapped up in early 2025. Shimai-Toshi was unique, all of their beers and a hard seltzer used Japanese citrus fruit Yuzu and flavors were designed to pair with food like ramen and sushi. One of the founders operated a small yuzu farm in Oregon, they contract brewed the beers and seltzer at Zoiglhaus Brewing in Portland and mostly distributed their products in 16oz cans boldly marked “YUZU” while the actual brewing company name Shimai-Toshi was more obscure.
The Hive Taphouse & Shattered Oak Brewing (Oregon City)
Oregon City taphouse and brewery The Hive was the original home of Shattered Oak Brewing and Batch 1 Meadery. The steampunk stylish beer hall was also the home of burlesque themed The Perky Pantry food cart.
Taylor’s Brewery at the Public House (Grants Pass)
Formerly Climate City Brewing, the Taylor’s Brewery opened in the historic Grants Pass brewery building in 2023 specializing in traditional English-style Cask beer and pub ales. The building itself has over a hundred years of history, including a stint as a hub for bootleggers during prohibition which used its basement tunnel to move booze. The allegedly haunted space has been home to many great alcohol producers, including the Steam Distillery which still operates in the same building.
Manifest Beer Pub (Eugene)
The Eugene, Oregon brewery that started as Man Cave Brewing in 2015 before later rebranding to Manifest announced the closure of their downtown pub in April. Manifest has went through multiple iterations and taproom locations, settling on a former sports bar/dive pub next to where they were currently brewing in 2022. They thought the location had potential, but ultimately felt misled and are now locked into a standoff with the City of Eugene.
In an instagram post on 4/28/25 Manifest stated in part:
“we invested everything we had into the corner of 7th and Willamette after the City of Eugene promised major redevelopment for downtown. They told us this would be the spot for growth leading into the World Track Championships and the Olympic Trials. They promised to build out our breezeway and to invest into the community they wanted us in.”
“We believed in the vision. We believed in downtown Eugene. We invested in our community, in our people, and in a dream we were told was shared.”
“The City changed their plans. They abandoned downtown and diverted funding to the new Riverfront project, leaving over twenty empty storefronts within just one block of our business.”
But according to reporting by news outlet Lookout Eugene-Springfield the Manifest owners had been building up a backlog of unpaid bills on two different leases. The Lookout reports Manifest “owe the city more than $120,000 in back rent and could end up owing more than $150,000, because the five-year leases don’t expire until Dec. 31.”
Crux Fermentation (Portland Pub)
The Bend, Oregon based Crux Fermentation Project opened a second location in southeast Portland in the former Vagabond Brewing PDX location in June 2023c. The Crux Portland Pub had similar features as Bend, a long beer list, spirits, wine, and a custom outdoor firepit. Unfortunately it was not meant to be, the location in the old Dairgold Building was always off the beaten path and once the initial excitement of a Portland pub wore off it just didn’t have the charm of the original’s grassy field and open skies. Crux Portland Pub closed in March while the original Crux location in Bend is still open but shrunk down and with new property owners. Read the full story here.
Assembly Brewing (Portland)
Oregon’s first and only black-owned brewery in southeast Portland closed in May 2025 after 6 years in business. After the New School first reported the closure a massive outpouring of support for owner/brewer/pizzamaker George Johnson packed the brewpub for days showing the staff just how much this seminal brewery meant to people. Assembly was known for the sharp buildout of their location in the Foster-Powell neighborhood, their gorgeous, detailed, romantic wraparound mural inside the restaurant depicting the art of brewing and pizzamaking, authentic Detroit-style Pizza, and their commitment to staying 21+. Read the full story here.
Assembly Pizza Annex (NE Portland)
The original Assembly Brewing opened in southeast Portland in 2019, in 2024 they expanded, opening a satellite pizza pub on the busy NE Alberta strip that operated as the first and only all-ages location of the brewery. Assembly Pizza Annex outlasted the main brewery, mostly to wind down the beer and business which experienced a surge in demand and to-go pizza orders for their famed Detroit-style pies.
Fracture Brewing taproom (SE Portland)
Fracture Brewing started as an independent concept Vietnamese and West Coast inspired brand by Darren Provenzano and wife Ny produced at Culmination Brewing. After local restaurant/bar group Chefstable acquired the former Burnside Brewing space they also bought into Fracture Brewing giving them a homebase and eventually opening a Fracture Brewing taproom at 1015 SE Stark with the Lil’ America food truck pod. Fracture signed with Day One Distribution, came out with some beautiful cans, won a silver medal at the Oregon Beer Awards, and opened a second tap truck location downtown. But the Provenzano’s left the brand a few years back, and the actual brewery shut down in 2024 though the beers and brand still exist and are contract brewed. Fracture Brewing’s taproom in southeast Portland has also closed but pivoted into another beer truck parked outside in the newly rebranded Pan y Pueblo food truck pod where Mexican bakery Dos Hermanos will expand into the interior taproom.
Viking Braggot Brewery Southtowne Pub
The original Viking Brewing is still open in Eugene after 12 years, but in June the braggot brewery closed their primary outlet in their southwowne pub and restaurant. 2025 was a bit of a reset for Viking Braggot Brewery which dropped “Braggot” from their original name to become more traditional Viking Brewing Company, and pivoted to making more standard styles of beer. A “Braggot” is an historic but obscure style of hybrid-beer, half mead honey-wine and half classically fermented malt, yeast, hop beer. Viking Brewing has pulled back to their original tasting room and brewery space in west Eugene where they have put significant work into rejuvenating the space and hosting more events.
The Whet Spot (Seaside)
August 25th was the last hurrah of much loved Seaside beer bar and bottleshop The Whet Spot. For 7 years The Whet Spot built a space for community and celebration of craft, throwing in the towel because of a culmination of several factors. The closure was both a personal decision as to the stress and sacrifices of an owner run and operated business, as well as to rising costs, competition, and unsustainability of the industry at this point which are amplified on the coast in heavily tourist powered Seaside.
“This decision was not made lightly, nor without a great deal of soul-searching (and procrastination, lol), but as every chapter finds its end, so too must this one,” said owners Heather and Mason who promised to stay active in the beer nerd community.
The Whet Spot social media is still relatively active, following the ups and downs of the beer industry.
Nebulous Taproom (Beaverton)
Nebulous Taproom kept their August 2025 closure quiet until posting about the public auction for their taproom equipment. Nebulous (not to be confused with the mixed-culture nano brewery Nebuleus Beer) was one of a handful of new beer bar taprooms to open on the westside suburbs Beaverton and Hillsboro in 2020 including Prime Tap House, Wildwood Taphouse, Raindrop Taphouse and Noble Hop. According to reports/rumors, the owners of Nebulous were planning to pass on the business to a new owner but that fell through resulting in their permanent closure.
Gilgamesh Brewing The Campus (Salem)
Salem, Oregon’s Gilgamesh Brewing was one of the hottest new breweries in Oregon when they first launched in 2009 with unique beers like Mamba ale with black tea and tangerine and DJ Jazzy Hef. They opened a brewpub in downtown southeast Salem near the Salem-Willamette Valley Airport and another called ‘The Woods’ in west Salem, and expanded into multiple locations in town, and more recently into Lincoln City. In 2023 Gilgamesh closed ‘The Woods’ and then in late 2024 quietly ended their own brewery operations, auctioning off their brewhouse, tanks, and production equipment, but keeping their existing 3 pubs open. Gilgamesh Brewing is still in business, reportedly having some of their beers contract brewed for them, but as of August 29th officially closed their primary flagship location and last in Salem “The Campus” but still operates Gilgamesh locations “The River” in Independence, and “The Coast” at the Lincoln City Outlets.
“We have looked tirelessly for a new location somewhere in South Salem. We were looking for something primarily move-in ready. We had a number of locations we worked toward obtaining but unfortunately nothing came to fruition,” said Gilgamesh Brewing.
Upright Brewing (N. Portland)
Portland’s farmhouse brewing pioneers Upright Brewing ended things on their own terms on December 30th going out with a raucous party at their original location at 240 N. Broadway. Early on Upright Brewing was among the first to help popularize and push forward American Farmhouse beers following rustic tradition but made with contemporary ingredients and methods. From the open fermentation vessels, to explorations on yeast, bacteria, wild fermentation, to becoming one of the first Oregon craft breweries to champion Pilsner long before lagers became cool again. In the last 6 years Upright moved beyond the confines of farmhouse and became a major proponent of British-style cask beer, and doing things on their own terms despite current trends. Upright Brewing is survived by their second location the Upright Beer Station at 7151 NE Prescott that opened in 2023. Upright Beer Station will continue to pour Upright beers while they last and then transition to guest beers carefully chosen in the same theme of what Upright was brewing.
Idol Cider House
Orchard and cidery Idyll Farms and Idol Cider has ceased production of their traditional dryish ciders and their online store, club, and shipping are shut down, yet cans and kegs of their cider are still available through Point Blank Distributing. Idol Cider founder Richard Hostetter and his wife got started in the fall of 2014 after relocating to Oregon after 18 years living and working in Tokyo, Japan. They grafted their first 15,000 apple trees – more than 25 traditional bittersweet varieties — in the winter of 2015 on a 60-acre farm that would become the permanent orchard and nursery in late 2015.
Sunriver Brewing Galveston Pub (Bend)
Bend, Oregon’s Sunriver Brewing was founded in their namesake Sunriver, but for most people it was their Galveston Avenue pub in central Bend that was homebase. While Sunriver Brewing is going strong as ever, even expanding, the Galveston location has unfortunately closed in protest to a major building overhaul and proposed changes to their space and lease. Sunriver’s NW Galveston Ave. Pub closed permanently on November 1st 2025.
Rogue Ales (all locations)
Rogue’s abrupt closure on November 14th marked an ignominious end to one of Oregon’s oldest breweries. In some ways it was not surprising that Rogue was undergoing a rough patch and no longer the titan they once were, it was still shocking to see the empire disappear in the blink of an eye. Indeed Rogue had shown little signs of closing, even opening a brand new restaurant and taproom in Salem earlier this year. Rogue’s beers can still be found around the country and probably still across the world due to their famously international distribution, it remains to be seen what will become of the company assets that include valuable locations in Newport and Portland, as well as the iconic Dead Guy brand.
Newport Brewing (Newport)
The impressive custom built Newport Brewing Company opened in 2019 offering an alternative craft beer option for the Oregon coast where Rogue Ales became famous. Newport Brewing got off to a great start, a beautiful space with colorful interior and lots of parking, and an award-winning brewer. But over the pandemic Newport Brewing continued to struggle, owner Brodie Becksted putting the business up for sale atleat 3 times before deciding to open a food truck pod on the property that never actually came to be. Newport Brewing is currently closed, likely permanently, though available again and back on the market if anyone is looking for a turnkey opportunity.
Cider Bite (NW Portland)
Portland’s oldest cider taproom closed after 10 years in business in October. The reasons for the closure are detailed in our article here.
Suzie’s Brewery Company (Pendleton)
You probably haven’t heard of Suzie’s brewery because they didnt brew beer, they made hard seltzer in Eastern Oregon. The operation in Pendleton was sizable for a small startup, they brewed on a 25bbl 3-vessel system designed to make beer. They fermented in 60bbl unitanks and had a ton of equipment that went up for auction in December. Starting in 2020, Suzie’s expanded from making gourmet mustards to uniquely flavored organic hard seltzers available in cans at Trader Joes.
John’s Marketplace (Beaverton)
The third and newest location of John’s Marketplace bottleshop and beer bars opened in Beaverton, Oregon in 2022. For 26 years John’s has been a staple for beer nerds starting with their original location in SW Multnomah VIllage and expanding into their popular SE Powell Blvd. location with taproom and food truck pod. The Beaverton location never seemed to take off unfortunately and closed at the end of the year on December 31st. Full story here.
Cascadia Taphouse Timberview (NE Portland)
The third location of Cedar Mills founded Cascadia Taphouse opened at the new Timberview food hall at 9911 NE Glisan St in August 2025 and closed just 3 months later in November. Cascadia Taphouse still operates their successful original location as well as Cascadia Heights in SW Portland.
